Greetings...
I decided to try out my local Eckerd Drug Store photo lab digital print service yesterday. I formatted about 40 of my print images for a 4x6 format at 600dpi and put them on a CD and headed out...
The normal price for a single 4x6 digital print at this lab is $0.39, which isn't too bad, but they have coupons available where you can get up to 80 prints for $0.20 each. I can't print my own that cheap and the girl at the lab gave me a stack of these coupons.
The print quality was excellent and the prints come on a paper that has a postcard format backing on it. I spent several hours today creating 4x6 formats of all my prints to make a print portfolio....
Just thought I would pass this along...

John, are the prints durable...ie: somewhat water-resistant? Like you would get from 35mm film? |

I have no idea. All I know is that it seems to be a dye-sub print process. The quality looks good but I don't know what will happen if you take them in the shower :)

John, We've told you about taking your prints in the shower with you. :-P
I wonder if all Eckerd's are that high quality, or if you just got lucky? Our local Eckerd's is okay, but even the film prints are of mediocre quality. I'm afraid they would whack out if we actually wanted them to print digital. But, of course, I live in the sticks (by choice, in case anyone wonders), so it may be my isolation that warrants that.

All the Eckerds that I have ever used for 35mm prints have been excellent. It won't cost but a very minimal amount to try out their digital service. I'm sure you can get one print made if you just want to try it out.

If they came out that good, I hope the one opening up in my town and less than 2 miles from my house opens soon. Then again, it might have something to do with the person running the machines also.

I was lucky enough to have mine printed while i waited. There was no operator intervention in this process. She put my cd in the computer and pressed a few buttons to tell the machine I wanted two prints of each image. I specifically asked for no adjustments to the prints.

Ahhh...yes. To remember no adjustments. Will keep that in mind. Thanks

My local camera club highly endorses at least one Eckerd. The manager of the photo department has even been a judge at one of our monthly competitions, and seemed quite up to date on processes, etc. Apparantly there is some training involved. |
