I don't know how many people would be able to participate, but it's fun to try doing different things with the technique. Maybe it could be done if the rules were suspended. |

You can do this without any rules changed if you have a slow shutter speed.

I've done quite a lot of light painting - I love it, but I don't think the rules should be suspended as that would really kill off the very basis of the challenge. Here's a link to my lightplay stuff - I'd be interested in any comments and seeing shots by others who've experimented too.

Those are nice. Are there any tutorials that you know of on the technique?
I've never done light painting but have seen some others that are interesting and think it would be something fun to do for fall. I was really thinking of a car someone traced and was thinking it would take me more than 15 seconds to do something like that. |

Jon those are great! I really like "Electric Earth". Excellent work. I think this would be great challenge, Pcody. We'd get a lot of creative stuff in this challenge but by the looks of it, Jon Lucas would win hands down. :)
You can do a lot of cool stuff with a simple "pen laser" from any electronics store. The insense light (like in some of Jon's pics) makes it a simple way to great effects. |

A busy street with at least a 4" shutter speed would work as long as you use a tripod. You'll can see some good results.

Hey thanks for the great comments.
Most of my exposures were around 3-10 secs which prevents overexposure and is just enough to reduce noise too. I've found that it sometimes helps to have an additional low light source to add some ambient light. This allows the exposure to be a little shorter and the movement quite defined without becoming simply a mass of creamy white streaks.
When I get a chance I'll stick a tutorial up on some of my methods. I'm sure there are others who may have some good advice too though.
It looks like you might get a chance to experiment within the latest challenge at least, but don't excpect to get any ribbons - my last effort was this!..
