Anybody have any tips on getting good deals on airline tickets? Hubby's been gone over a month and I'm anxious to fly back out there to see him.

I've booked all my flights for the past 4 years with Travelocity or Expedia, more recently using Travelocity exclusively. I love being able to compare price changes as I tweak the itinerary up one day, or back a day on the return flight, etc. I've found some pretty good deals.

I find that the airline websites usually end up being cheaper or equivalent to travelocity or expedia these days. used to be good but they seemed to have caught up. Still useful to use them to see the variety of options in one place though. Orbitz is also worth checking, as expedia doesn't have access to all of the airlines.

While we are on the topic, can anyone find me a decent, cheap hotel near the strip for Las Vegas, on Feb 29th ?

I just got Tickets for Florida (spirit Airlines).. and airlines are now charging extra for luggage :(---

In fact United Airlines charges 50 per suitcase (carry on is free).. It was 10 bucks a bag via Spirit.

That's just Spirit. It's a low cost, no frills airline. If you check in online baggage is only $5, though.

United $50? You sure it wasn't a overweight bag? I've been charged for that before. Delta, USAir, AirTrans I've flown recently without baggage fees. Personally I think they should charge per carry-on instead. I hate those people that bring 3 huge pieces of carry-on and take an entire overhead bin.

United so far is the only one charging $50 - and it is only for a 2nd checked bag. You can still check one bag for free (as long as it meets the size/weight requirements).
I work as a travel agent....

I imagine more of the major airlines will soon follow suit. Word in the industry is that in the near future they are going to start charging extra to have an assigned seat number prior to getting to the airport.

Try www.kayak.com since they search all the travel sites like orbitz etc plus individual airline sites. Also easy to filter results.

Airfares change on an almost daily basis. You have to keep on watching till you get a price you like, then hope it doesn't go any lower.

Check out this service //www.farecast.com/ that helps predict fares.

I don't know where you are or where you are flying to----but, try SKYBUS...new airline that flies into smaller airports for a lot less money.

Tried all suggestions. Kayak and travelation came in close seconds, but ultimately found the best price at southwest.com. $271 for a round-trip / 1 stop / from Louisville to Salt Lake City. thanks for all the suggestions!!!
