I offend people (unintentionally) just by the simple fact of applying regulations and laws that I enforece everyday at work. Some people are also offended that we have the gall to search their luggage. But that's just the way travel is these days. That said, it's a part of life that you will offend people and that some people will offend you.

Thank you, I'm glad I'm not the only who noticed a level of immaturity in her comments. I won't say she is a teen cause the teens around this site most often act better than many of the adults. But she definately has issues and really her comments in most cases were very undeserving.

I won't offend Ben by saying she is acting like a teen cause he conducts himself better than a lot of the adults around here. She obviously lacks tack and a level of maturity although.

I agree with John, there should NOT be an option to delete messages. Like others have also said, it's a bad idea and would be censorship.

However, I see nothing wrong with adding a feature where if someone is rude, etc., in their comments, the user could select an "Ignore" button which would prevent the "rude" person from leaving anymore comments on your pics. Also maybe a time limit of 3 months so it automatically expires after 3 months and they can leave comments again. When a person is blocked from leaving comments, they would get a message saying that.

[Added]: Better yet, the blocked person would see a greyed out comment box which doesn't allow them to type anyting in, and a small message saying you are blocked from leaving a comment. Hmm, you might also have to block them from voting because they would find out who is blocking them (after the challenge results are posted), get mad about it, and give that person a "1" next time they are told they are blocked. So you'd have to block them from voting also. :)

LOL - don't like a comment, just delete it...

Get a grip everyone, if someone is being abusive, report it. If the site owners deem it offensive (according to their guidelines) then they will remove it I guess and really...

Who cares? If a comment by someone here can get you all upset you should get out of the arts. Ever enter a judged showing? You would be a puddle of sobbing mush by the time they are through with ya. This is nothing. You think the photographic showing community is nice???? Bwahahahahahah. They have no problem with saying "that is just horrible" to your face, in front of a lot of people.

Grow some skin. This is art. Criticism can be brutal. Don't like it, take up checkers...

Would it offend Ben if you assumed she was a blonde teen? ;)

There's a difference between brutal criticism and an idiot who doesn't contribute anything in his/her comment. If they cuss or don't have the ability to express themselves constructively and the photographer doesn't want to (or unable to) tolerate it, they should be able to block the person. (limit of 3 months however).

I just read some of your comments onesweetsin and almost all the ones i read were positive and you shouldn't be complaining about 1 or 2 not so positive ones here and there, besides we all get them every now and then.
And what exactley is a "troll"? someone who just joined the site and has no experience in commenting? What if this person ends up to be the next John Setzler? Aren't we all trolls then when we first join?

One of my biggest complaints with DPC has always been the TROLL comments. I wish we would be able to remove or at least hide the comments that offend us.

I have never before been so offended by someone telling me a photo doesn't meet the challenge or that they don't get the tie in to the challenge as I was when someone was so disrectful to type it all in caps lock. Not only does that signify yelling in the cyber world but it is also rude espeically somewhere like here.

I could care less if they don't like the photo or it doesn't fit the challenge, they can leave that comment anytime they want. Sometimes I will even explain the tie into the challenge to that person in an email. But do we really have to put up with the inconsideration of the trolls who think that is perfectly fine to disrespect everyone and try to prove just how superior they are to everyone else by YELLING there comment?

When will DPC get a box to check that says I don't want any troll comments or at least the ability to hide comments we find offensive. I know this is the cyber world and all but it just isn't right that everytime I look at that photo I should have to see that disrespectful comment in all CAPS!

My goodness, does this not sound like the tone of a Class A personality rather then some middle of the road, half way between Class A and B? It soure does to me. LOL

Please post the 'troll' comments here & the image/images concerned, then we can all tell if they are worthy or unjust.

You will have to go search them out, it is one thing to complain about them but even though rant is suppose to be unmoderated I know I would hear from site council if I posted a link to the troll and the number of unnecessary comments made by that person.

OSS, Sorry that you are getting rude comments. Report it and then ignore it would be my suggestion. Don't feed it.

As for the capitals and shouting...in my case, I am older and didn't know this was considered to be shouting until my daughter replied to one of my emails and said, "WHY ARE YOU SHOUTING?". I didn't know.
I still don't know what a lot of the symbols mean.

I mean a link to your image!

And on another note...OH MY GOD! Only just found out, your the crueeeel person whom left that poor kitty stuck up a tree just so you could take a picture of him/her!

I meant to return to that image after the challenge finished and see whom could be so cruel! //www.dpchallenge.com/image.php?IMAGE_ID=40126

lol - just joking here ;)

Hope kitty was taken down after!

LOL I just realized I missed leaving a photographers comment on the photo prior to the challenge. Truth is she was being held there by my little boy and was less than a foot off the ground. I think the distressed look she has is cause he probably was squeezing her like all little kids do to kittens.
lol - just joking here ;)

Oh believe a few days ago I commented to her in an email that all caps is shouting and considered rude, I tried to give her the benefit of the doubt but I got a extremely rude reply back.

A private email is a totally different matter.

I read what I suspect is the comment you are complaining about. I also looked at her profile.

Granted, her comments may not be useful. They may even be a bit immature, but I don't see her as a troll. She said nothing derogatory toward a person; she attacked no one personally; she didn't use language that is any worse than what I have found in this thread.

I see no reason for her to be banned, blocked, or burned at the stake.

A true troll is not only unhelpful, but almost threatening.

Judging from your response to Marjo, I would gather that your real issue here is her rudeness in the email, rather than the actual comment.

BTW, is Clay's banishment for life?

No actually my problem with her is the lack of consideration by typing it all in capitals thus representing yelling and screaming her comment. I used my portfolio here for business purposes but because of her and a few others I have chosen to stop doing so. I don't want the disrespectfulness of the so called yelling comments to tarnish what I am trying to accomplish.

This site has the potential to be a wonderful tool for professional portfolios but the lack of being able to hide comments such as hers just doesn't make it possible.

She left a comment on mine too... didn't get to me tho. Really it just made me laugh cuz I couldn't tell if she was calling herself dumb for not *getting it*.
I really don't see the fuss over the comment she gave you. I myself felt like commenting on your pic "NOT IRONY", so what... get on with it... it's called LIFE and you CANNOT control every aspect which interferes with your reality.

After a little detective work I've discovered that the individual in question commented on my Urban pic. She must have learned something because she didn't use any capitol letters...

Total comment was "not really urban"... I was gonna PM her and ask how it could NOT be urban but after looking at her profile and comments and avg. score I decided it wasn't worth the effort of pushing down all those keys...
10/10/2003 04:55:24 PM · #45
i will refrain from using any caps so as to not offend anyone :)

seriously though, i've read the comments this person has made and she seems more deserving of your pity then your indignation. her talent at commenting is under-shadowed only by her skills with a camera. not to mention an inability to select the correct gender when creating an account. i would normally not say something like this but i've used a few multisyllabic words so i'm confident she'll never read this...

life is too short... let's move on...

Since there are oodles of sites that would allow you to create a "professional portfolio," I am assuming that you mean dpc is special because it allows the potential employeer to see all the comments that were made. Hmmm, some interesting arugments and counterarguments about that, but I won't go there.

If a perspective employeer likes what you've done, I don't think a comment or two here and there is going to hurt. It looks bad on the commenter, not you. Especially if there is only one comment like that. Now, if there are several, the issue isn't what the employeer thinks, but what the commenters think.

Aye, aye, Cap'n! Wait, I'm IN my room.
I probably do deserve a time out, for what I'm thinking if not what I'm typing.

Oh please do pm her. Let me tell you how she justifies it. She will pm you back with some chose words and then the defination of the word urban as defined by Webster. Believe me she spent more time in copy and pasting from Webster for the reply I got than she did in all 38 comments she had left as of this morning. LOL oh heck I dare you to pm her and ask her how it could not be urban.
