Is there a way to make your photos sharper with changing the settings in your camera? I have Canon 40D

Yep - ( citymars has some good suggestions). Also, there are multiple options to sharpen your photos post processing. I have taken a quick look and it seems that you have a good lens for sharp images, but maybe you have not applied any sharpening to your images.

If you have CS2/CS3 - smart sharpen works very well
If you don't, you may find Unsharp Mask (in the filters list in photoshop) can work very well.

Here is one of your images sharpened once using USM
It is noticably sharper.

Sharpened version

PM if you have further questions.

- Make sure you focus correctly -- try manual focus as well as auto-focus.
- Use a tripod.
- Increase the depth of field and/or increase the shooting speed.

EDIT: - listen to bassbone. :-)
