I dunno if this has been posted yet, but check out this sweet little number from Sigma: //www.dpreview.com/news/0801/08013101sigma250500.asp

Sheesh. That's just under 35 lbs. It ships with the following:

ΓΆ€ΒΆ Dedicated hard case
ΓΆ€ΒΆ Strap
ΓΆ€ΒΆ 400-1000mm f/5.6 attachment
ΓΆ€ΒΆ Battery charger BC-21
ΓΆ€ΒΆ Battery pack BP-21

That's right, its own battery pack, thank goodness :-) I wonder how long a 20D battery would last if it had to run that beast? Closest focusing distance, incidentally, is just under 5 feet... Hrmmm... 500mm at 5 feet, f/2.8... I wonder how much DOF that's gonna be good for? May be one of the great bokeh lenses of all time LOL.

ETA: Over at Fred Miranda they are saying they have heard price will be in the 12k range, which seems like less than I'd have expected...

And the color! So you can stalk your wildlife without first having to buy some extra lens covers or anything silly like that :D

I'm not sure "stalking" and "35lb lens" belong in the same sentence. For sure you'll be shootin' this one from a blind...

This lens was announced almost a year ago.

Sigma 200-500 f2.8

Looks like they changed the color.

I didn't even notice the camera hanging on the end at first!!!! You would never screw this lens onto the camera, it's a case of screwing the camera to the lens.

That's what I want. F/2.8 at 500mm. And a zoom no less! Now all I need is a body builder to help me carry it. :-)

Send it my way, I'll be happy to carry it around. :)

Just think of your kid as practice for carrying the lens. ;)

A lens with a dedicated battery to power it too. Now if I could only sneak this into hockey games.... :)
