Day 30.....a little photographic story. Forgive my melodrama.
11:18am
I am on Signal Hill taking photos of the fog. I can hear the fog horn at Fort Amherst below. There is little wind but I can see the fog moving closer.
11:22am
I turn right towards the city. The mild temperatures the past 2 days has melted snow and that is causing a foggy haze to hang over the city. The Queen's Battery on Signal Hill is almost devoid of snow, the high winds means not much snow stays up here even when there is a lot of snow everywhere else in the city.
11:26am
I turn back towards the ocean. The fog is getting closer. The fog horn is still sounding every few seconds. It echoes in the still air.
11:27 am
I look down the cliffs of Signal Hill. The waves are pounding the rocks and the fog is hugging the hill. I can feel the air getting colder as the fog drifts up towards me.
11:28am
I look back at Fort Amherst. The fog bank is rolling over it, almost obscuring the lighthouse. I can't see very far.
11:29am
I turn to my left to take a photo of Cabot Tower before the fog envelopes it.
11:31am
A quick look to my right shows the fog slowly overtaking the city. It glides in along the hills and lies low over the buildings. A break in the clouds shows blue sky but it cannot penetrate the thick fog below.
11:33am
I turn back towards the ocean to see how close the fog is. I cannot see a thing. I can still hear the fog horn, I can still hear the waves pounding the cliffs below. There is a stillness in the air as the fog surrounds me. My eyes seem blurry and I blink to clear them but it is not my eyes, it is the fog. I look all around me. Everything has disappeared, the ocean, the city, even Cabot Tower which is not far from where I am standing. The fog fills my senses and I stand there, alone.

That last shot would have made no sense without the story. This way it was kind of like a poem, with pictures. |

Day 30. Today was a rainy, sunny, torrential downpour, sunny, rainy, torrential downpour, sunny, rainy, clear and rainy day. It is winter in Kaua`i on the North shore.
Hanalei bird sanctuary from the Hanalei Valley overlook.

Day 31. I bet you thought you'd be the first to post for the 31st. Well I might have posted the 31st before a couple of you. This was taken today which is really yesterday the 30th.
The sun and light playing in the clouds and mist in the mountains of Hanalei.
This has been a wonderful side challenge for me. I loved playing tourist on my home island because I got to see things I've not seen before.

A mundane shot of where I live - in a broader sense - I don't live right there. |

Hey, everybody.....this has been wonderful! I want to thank all of you for sharing "Where You Live" and most of all, the fantastic and thoughtful comments you have left for me on my images. I'm going to take a break in February......my dialup makes me NUTS, and I hope y'all are on the e-mail comment notification thing 'cause I want to go back through and comment, but the best I can probably do is a half dozen or so a day. This is my last one.....this HUGE tractor is one of the ones we have at work (FOR SALE mind you!), and it's an AWESOME piece of equipment!!!! It's that powerful that you could just kinda wrap a chain around your house and it'd yank it right outta the ground!!! I know you kind of have to be a machinery person to appreciate it, but, well......I AM!!!! LOL!!!!

I dunno if anyone thinks this is a good idea or not, but I'm posting my own personal favorite of mine for the month for a recap.

Again, thanks to you all.....it was MUCH fun!

A quick walk down the garden in the fading light of the evening for the final day of this particular adventure.
The ornamental mushroom thing on the left (On top of it is one of the finials from the archway behind. That fell off shortly after we moved in and I haven't had the time yet to replace it). On the right is the wind chime hanging on the pergola. In the middle is a view through the archway back towards the house.
