The rules state:

You may not:

* use the same original image in more than one challenge.

Yes, though it might get bashed by voters if overly recognizable.

Yes that has not been entered into a challenge before.

Going out on a limb here... but is it unethical to ask members to browse my portfolio and have them select which image I should submit for the best of 07? :-)

Some of my best stuff is not in my DPC portfolio.

The commonly accepted way is to pm a few people you respect and ask them, when they tell you, then ask them not to vote on your shot during the challenge, that is the most respected way of doing it. Also to hide the image from your portfolio during voting, using the portfolio editor.

If you're talking about asking a friend or two, that's fine -- but you should then ask those friends not to vote on your entry.

If you're talking about asking a large group or posting to the forums, then you shouldn't do that.

It's recommended, but not required, that you hide entries you are considering entering, by moving them to your workshop folder. You can still send direct links to those images to your friends for review.
