| If I remember rightly, the Opies (who are pretty much the most authorative figures in the study of childrens' folk rhymes and tales) could find no evidence to suggest that this was the case - it is certainly a modern interpretation, and sounds plausible, but there is no narrative history to back the theory up. But there again, I may be mis-remembering.... |

That's what I've read too. The rosies were flowers to mask the smell of the dead, anf the "all fall down" was all the people dropping dead from the plague. Kinda freaky when you think about it. |
