I love this picture, Terry. Congratulations! This is going to be fabulous on the big screen. Find a NYer to get a photo of the display.

Congrats, Terry!!! Now fly to New York so you can see it in person.

Rob/Bruce - I suppose I must go edit my comment again! Way to keep moving up the list. And yes, you owe penance. Comments are always welcome, either on Free Study entries, or commentless orphans in portfolios.

Peter/Steve - I'll be interested to see how the name change goes. I think I shall just address everyone here as either Steve or Rob. Except for the ladies. We need equivalents...

I'm listening - glad to be of service. :)

Please, please, please, please, please don't mark it as helpful. Please.

Oh don't you worry! I wouldn't mark that as helpful!

By the way, gang, when I do get back to Germany (I have a flight next week!!!) I won't have internet at home for awhile. Apparently there's a one month "waiting" period for reasons no one can fathom and I foolishly cancelled my service when I left. I'll have access at work, so I'll stop in here now and then, but I may not be entering challenges or commenting as much.

Yeah, Emma and Thomas, Mom is coming home!

Heh - in the "it's a REALLY small world" category, the woman who is watching Emma and Thomas is a friend and coworker from my San Antonio days who is now in Germany. She's deploying to Afghanistan. Her show time for her deployment out of Ramstein is the morning I'm supposed to fly in to Ramstein. How cool is that? She says she'll really miss Emma, who's become quite the lap kitty it seems.

That sounds like one of those "meant to be" kind of situations. I'm so glad to hear you're getting out of there and back to Germany. :)

YAY!!! So glad you're leaving where you are. I hope your sister is doing better. At least you'll be able to communicate better with her from Germany. And I know your babies are missing you.

Melithia ... so so glad to hear you are getting out of there. Just know when you land that there are many here (including me) that I am sure would wish to be there to cheer your arrival.

Oh Deb - I am *so* glad to hear you're going home. I can only imagine how excited your kitties will be to have you home (after a period of feline disdain of course).

I fell in love today.
In love with a being so small, so soft and cuddly.
With a being that I had to leave behind, never to see again.

Hubby, the kidlets and I went to the local "adoption fair" - and one of the shelters had a litter of 7-week old sheppard-lab-husky mix puppies. For a good 30 minutes, I held and snuggled one little bundle.

It about broke my heart to have to leave her there, but our bank account simply did not have the funds in it to cover the adoption fee (thanks to 2 weeks of lay-off for my hubby, and the added expenses with my mom's passing and funeral).

And the adoption fee is the least of the expenses when taking a pet into the family. I know how hard it must have been to leave her there, especially when you have a big empty space in your heart right now from losing your mother.

Julie - we're well aware of the long-term, ongoing expenses of pet ownership. And able and prepared to deal with those.
Just in a temporary financial rut because this lay off has tapped our savings account.

And yes - even harder because of the loss of my mother, and add in some extreme jealousy when I found out about dinner time today that my only close-by real-life friend went in after we'd left, and brought home one of the littermates herself :(

Lea, I figure the period of feline disdain may be somewhat extended... Not only have they been away from home, but in two different homes, and now a third feline will be joining them for an extended period (albeit in a separate part of the house for most of the time). But it will be nice to have my furry kids back, yes.

And as for your furry kid, when the time is right, the circumstances will prevail. I do believe that we don't pick animals, they pick us. :-)

Ernie and Bruce ... JPG voted for you both. Best of luck.
Deb, so very very very happy you'll be winging to colder temps soon.
Lea, funny how fast the furry friends can steal our hearts, isn't it?
Hi all!

when the haze of jealousy lifts from your spirit, you will realize that this is a good thing. :)

Now you can go visit!

In response to Deb's comment on my FS, here's the unedited version of my FS entry. Anyone willing to give it a try? I can email a full size (just pm me an email address to send it to). I really don't think I used NI on it, I cropped, saturated the eyes a bit, USM and I might have used a filter called Improver (not sure) which does do some noise reduction so that might account for it. I didn't keep the PSD of the file. I know I did try to keep it as natural as possible. I was using some god awful spotlights that couldn't be toned down for lighting. It was at night (the only time the mother could do it), and the only room they had with room to hang something for a background had very little lighting.

eta: I did also rotate a bit to get a more straight on view.

also eta: here's the FS entry...
