I'm in the market for an "up". Anyone got one to spare?

Escaping from sandy hot places with things that go boom doesn't count?

I left Baghdad two days ago so I missed the air show. Too bad I didn't know about that. And it snowed there last night. Rained here, so everything is a lovely beigish glue. And yes, getting out of here is an "up" but I'm still here at the moment. And my sister is still in the hospital and not getting better, which is a bigger down than leaving here is an up.

Deb, I am sorry to hear about your sister, I will keep her in my prayers.

Super sprog speeds Up-ness to Deb.

I hope your sister recovers soon - it sucks (and not in a happy, team suck kind of way) being away from family when they're sick. However, think of how relieved she must be that you're out of the sandy place.

Good thoughts coming your way...

Thinking of you and your sister, hoping you both "get out" soon.

My December Free Study got bumped to 6th with the dq of a higher shot (originally 3rd, I think); am I supposed to do "something" for having high TS score in the Free Study (or the week, or whatever)?? I've lost track of what high score means these days . . . I do appreciate all the kind comments on that and some other of my shots I've received recently, almost exclusively from Team Suckers. Thanks!

For something completely different (or not so different after all), that same Free Study shot is now at JPG mag (actually has been since a week or so ago); anyone who doesn't mind giving me a "yeah" vote, it would be greatly appreciated. It's my first time there, and I have no idea how it really works (I understand how it works, I just don't understand how it works; got it?), so any help would be appreciated.

It's here. Let me know if I can return the favor.

Best,

Bruce

I think it works more or less like any other publication, Bruce. The votes are fun and nice feedback, but there's and editing staff that makes the final decision. As far as I know. It's a great shot, anyway.

Uuuggg! I've got to vent about my most recent comment in Portrait with Specs. It is and I quote "NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!". This of course is from someone who just joined yesterday. And of course it's bombing, so if I didn't feel bad enough about it already, that one just sealed the deal. Thanks for letting me vent!

No Problem Bruce/Rob. Consider it done. You can find my jpg entry here.

I think the SC need to come up with a third check box that says, "ERRNNTT. This comment is stupid, try again"
Then every user can sort their helpful comments, non-helpful comments, and "ERRNNTT, This comment is stupid, try again" in their profile page.

The problem with challenges like portraits is you usually take a photograph of someone that matters to you.
I should just stay with photographing dead objects.

Judi started a thread about this very topic -- a bunch of new users out trolling and leaving very insulting comments. It happened to me too.
