Was driving home from the store, right in town, on our busiest street, and saw this guy crossing the road. I chased him down all over a vacant store/parking lot begging him to let me do a time-lapse thing for the challenge, but he was utterly uncooperative. Anyway, here he is: I doubt I'll ever see a wild turkey in an urban (more or less) environment again. He eventually disappeared into a thicket.

It is weird but there was a wild turkey living one summer in Battery park all the way downtown Manhattan. Got pics somewhere... |

That's a good sized Tom, funny story and I wish I had pictures of you chasing that that thing around town, that would have been a good time lapse photo:) |

Right. That's why I called this one STOOPID: he was out wandering a main thouroughfare in broad daylight. They don't DO that. He's big, maybe he's old. Do turkeys get alzheimers?

I know this area from my visits with Robert and I can certainly vision him slamming the brakes on the jeep, jumping out, getting the right lens and chasing this turkey down! I got a good chuckle! |

He was smart enough to get people from around the world talking about him, and smart enough to get away from your oven as well as your camera ... ;-) |

I once read a story of turkeys attacking people in the towns. I guess like chickens if you piss them off they can peck you good. :) |

It seems they are more and more common in urban areas. I never saw one till about 5 years ago (I live in St. Paul, MN) and now it's not uncommon to see them. Last year we had one living in our parking lot at work, a defense plant employing about 2500 people. He spent much of his time on the lawn just outside the front entrance. One day he was out in the parking area so I grabbed my camera and walked toward him. He let be get within about 10 feet before he started getting nervous.

I bet you see them again. Wild turkeys are making a comeback up here, not far from you, just outside of Boston. There are flocks of them doing stupid things all the time, stopping traffic, pecking at cars. Between the turkeys, the deer, the coyotes and the foxes you wouldn't believe that I live only 15 miles from the city. The wild turkeys have even invited themselves onto local farms and expect to be fed. Look up, they hang out in the trees. |

Gotta love turkey's. I nearly run over dozens of those things almost every day around here. The kids on my schoolbus love seeing how close we can get to squishing them. |

So I guess this is the new trend, huh? Fine with me. Let the turkeys wander. I was out shooting at dawn this morning and this particular bird was back at the same spot when I was heading home. So I whizzed over and got out with the camera, lucked out and got him crossing the road. Decided to try time-lapsing him from handheld and came up with this:
He's gonna get hammered someday, that's usually a very busy road...

I would be uncooperative as well if I knew the time lapse you wanted to do was based on 'basting' and 'stuffing'.

WOW Robert... the turkeys in your neck of the woods sure seem a lot more colourful than those that live here.
As an aside, these birds were almost extinct about 15 years ago, but due to a re-population effort they are now quite plentiful. There is one field in particular where I have seen them number in the hundreds. They are relatively safe and there are very few people who hunt them these days.
