A bottle cap makes a similar sound to those "clicky toy thingies." When I was in school it was all the rage to walk around clicking a Snapple cap. I think the point was to annoy the crap out of everyone. It should be very effective for distracting a subject, heh.

I think they sell them at pet stores. My Mom got one when she was training her dog.
I Don't think they will help train a cat. for that you need a water pistol.

In our house that laser pointer is known as Remote Control Kitty....LOL!!!

You*DO* know they get up on the table and dance as soon as you leave the house, don't you?

Have a look at her images...I love the whimsy of it all. She says each image takes quite a bit of time to make, particularly getting the cats to "perform" but oh so worth it I think.

Not my cat, though he could be if I wanted to adopt another one (and I am SO tempted by Siamese and Siamese mixes). I spend lots of time taking pictures of other people's cats at the animal shelter every week. Had to crop it tightly to get rid of the hand of the person holding him; biggest secret to getting good cat pictures is having a competent herder/holder assisting!

My one remaining cat, Kira, from a 30 Day Pet Portrait side challange last summer:
