I've kinda run out of things to shoot around here (or the desire to shoot what there is, maybe). So I need a project. Is someone willing to find some hidden gem in my portfolio that needs some photoshopping to give it a boost? Hints as to what you'd like to see done to it would be useful as well. Oh, and only things from the last five months - I don't have many of my other files with me.

Hey Deb, I was reading a thread in here yesterday about changing B/W photos to color. I was thinking about trying it.
Do you have any photos that you might want to add color to? |

I'd have to find the thread - I'm assuming you mean painting or something? Or just adding a color tone? |

Ummm.... so I'm not real good with coloring. I tried. Since I tend to take color out of pictures more often than not, it may be I just can't see how to color a picture. The real issue is I don't know how to mask all that well (I just can't "draw" lines around things well) so maybe I need to practice that somehow. I'll think of something! |

Shoot Food...Army food.
I'm curious what "three squares" actually look like. |

This might be a good time to explore self portraits.
Also another study along the lines of your "Rocks". Pick a subject and study it in all sorts of light, different times of day.

Looks like food. I'm not a food person so I'd probably pass even if we were allowed to have cameras in the chow halls. Which we are not, for whatever odd reason.
Food is decent and there's a lot of it. Always have pretty decent choices. Last night was seafood night - usually have fried shrimp and either crab legs or lobster, though the former more than the latter. They have steak on seafood night, too. All of it is seriously cooked - as in overcooked. But the guys who do the cooking generally do fairly well. For Christmas, the chefs and the servers all took a bunch of styrofoam and carved, among other things, the Taj Mahal, Santa's sleigh and reindeer, a Nativity scene... Pretty good for styrofoam! And the majority of the chefs/servers are Hindi, not Christian. It's an interesting place.
And Barbara? Not a chance on the SPs. I did one of the 30 day SP challenges - did the whole thing - and that was more of me than I could stand! :-)
As for the light of day thing, I have a kazillion shots of my shovel in different light.... Heh! I kinda shoot it alot. It's there. It doesn't go anywhere. It never complains. And I don't think I need it to sign a model release. |

If I were in your shoes (boots?) I'd spend every spare minute taking portraits of the gi's. Assuming it's allowed.
edit: or the locals. I look at your portfolio once in a while to catch new shots. Anything you've been shooting would, in my opinion, be worthy of spending a lot of time on and trying to make an actual series out of. It's all good stuff and certainly not what most people can shoot on a daily basis.

Methinks you should read you Canon service agreement:
All kidding aside, don't try and make something happen, let it come to you. |

Melethia you could start a 365 days project, I'm thinking the next 365 days of your life will be interesting. |

Heh! That's very good, Brad. I did go out and shoot yesterday. Had a great time. Came back and deleted the card's contents without even transferring the pictures. I was shooting just to get out and shoot. :-)
I would take pictures of GIs except I'm an officer, most of them are not - I'm not comfortable with possibly making them uncomfortable. And I know this is gonna sound bad, but we all look so boringly alike! Still, I kinda regret not taking more pictures of the folks here. It just seems that I might be imposing, you know? As for "locals", we do have some here and I do have pictures but I won't post them for safety reasons.
But yeah, I should shoot a few more soldiers now and then. With a camera, of course (figured I'd better specify). |

The GIs might like nice portraits to send home? |

Heh!! Now that's just plain, ummm, weird. :-)
Someone, and I can't remember who, started a collage-related project. I may do that. At a minimum, I could have about 10 shots of my shovel... I could do Warhol....bwahhaahahaaha! |

I am sure they would. My husband is doing a tour over there and I would be tickled pink if I got random photos of him in the mail :) |

Heh - I really should get over my shyness, huh? I'm just basically too chicken to ask! Where is your husband, by the way? If he happens to be in Baghdad, a portrait is do-able! |

I wish I'd have known that! I was there for three days earlier. Wah! I'd have looked him for sure! Bucca's a nice camp, by the way. I liked it there. |

But have you photographed how you FEEL about it. Abstract, Impressionism, post process the hell out of it and squeeze it through six filters to purify it. Blur, motion, overlay and x-process it. Explore some not so commonly used settings on the camera and in photoshop.

LOL! I'd have to figure out to use at least six filters.... good idea! |

I suspect once one got a photo to email home you'd have a queue forming outside your trailer. |
