I may be starting to look for a softbox. I think the ability to easily control my lighting and background will allow me to do some still life shots that I have had to shy away from.
Looking for suggestions as to what features to look for. I am assuming that highly adjustable lights is the main thing I probably want. |

B&H Photo has some good ones. I got a $20 one that attached right to my flash. Pretty sweet!

I just got this for Christmas. You need a stand. It makes a great "on location" soft box and works with your camera flash.

To really get the control you need, I suggest using a dSLR with a shoe type flash. |

Maybe I used the wrong term. I was looking for one of the desktop studio thingies you can place objects into and arrange the lights around it.

you meant Light Box. :O)
Check here for several options of DIY.
I made this one a long time ago, and it has definitely served it's purpose. |

| My friend has made this one, and it is pretty sweet. Very easy to build and use, and basically free. And if it get's lost/broken, it would take another 2 min to make another one. |

That gives me some ideas. thanks. I have some folding fabric laundry baskets that would do nicely and I just need to obtain some inexpensive lights. I see a selection of various bulbs might be useful to keep with the kit.
I want something quick and easy to set up on the kitchen table and that would fold up and story easily. That ought to work. thanks for the tips. |

| I did a do it yourself and I didn't like it. I bought a 36" collapsable one off Ebay and I love it. It has four different colors backdrops, is space saving, and it works really well. It is also big neough to fit my dog! I am at work and can't send a link to the one I bought but if you are interested then PM me and I will send you the link after I get home. Oh, I only paid like 30 dollars for it. |

Check out Cyrill Harnischmacher's "Low Budget Shooting" book. Light Boxes are fairly inexpensive to build and fairly easy if you have the basic tools laying around the house.
