I couldn't decide which shot to enter for the BITE challenge. I was going to enter this but decided to enter this one instead, . Do you think I should have stuck with my original? |

I like the one you entered better. The other is too diffuse for me. I quite liked the entry, but evidently the voters didn't agree with me. Perhaps because they saw a lot more "ordinary" than they did "beauty"? Nearly all the top finishers are much "prettier pictures" than this one.

For Christmas Paulina gave me her old (relatively unused) Wacom Graphite tablet sans pen and software. Is it possible to use a generic pen (made for any tablet) or are the pens specific to this tablet? I am a total noob at graphics tablets but am anxious to get started learning this one. Any direction is greatly appreciated. |

It does require a specific pen - replacement pens are available on Amazon. I don't think it requires any specific software, though. At least it didn't on either of my computers (XP and Vista.)
Edit to add that the pen has the clickers that work like the mouse buttons. I *think* you could use a dull pointed stylus just to move the curser, though. You could try!

But the pen is pressure-sensitive, which is one of the great advantages of a tablet in editing images. You can get wider coverage by pressing harder. Way cool.

I just finished listening to a NPR interview with Ashley Gilbertson, a photographer that has been in Iraq. Here are some Sample Iraq photos and his website.
He talked about how important it is for soldiers to be taking photographs because there are so few news reporters and photographers in Iraq. |

Most of us knew that Melethia was doing the world a huge service, we just did not know how huge it really is. Thanks again Deb! |

Unfortunately, I don't get to go "outside" here. It's kind of a bummer. Instead, I shoot pictures of tools in a maintenance yard.... I do have pictures of the Iraqis who work with us there, but I won't post them online. They're great guys though - incredibly friendly and always quite upbeat and cheerful. |

Ernie, I see most of the top 20 as showing either:
- an everyday object presented in an unusual, beautiful way
- an everyday scene captured in a beautiful way
For the others, well, so be it.
Someone commented on my entry that it wasn't everyday because in his experience, he'd never seen a piano in an airport. Never mind that it's there every day, and people probably wander past without ever appreciating its music or the wonder of the window it sits in front of. So be it - I got three faves (thanks, hipychik!) and raves from many others.
So try not to let it get to you. Just shoot as you see fit.
And major congrats to Catherine, Colleen, and Deb for going so high!

Heh, yeah... As I browsed through the top entries, I wondered if there's something about TS that makes people particularly predisposed to seeing the beauty in the everyday. And also to writing poetry about it too :)
Congrats guys! |

I "found" this in the Perspective V scores thread . . .

Very nice, Peter! Hang in there (but yes, two favs are awesome); my own perspective is at 6.1687, with 12 comments and a fav. Texture is a more sucky 5.2727, which is probably where it belongs :)
Happy Holidays, all,

I'm sorry, Peter and Rob (err ... Bruce), that you have created something that's scoring well. I have attained a perfect state of suck with my 4.8 in Perspective. :) |

Eek, a fire challenge, and I'm not in Edinburgh?! I shall have to improvise...
I've got one shot in perspectives, hovering around 5.4. It's kinda DNMC, so I'm actually pretty pleased with that... |

Sigh. Pardon the interruption. My sister is back in the hospital again. Her chemistry is all screwed up. She's still scheduled for yet another surgery the first week of January (she should have a zipper put in this time for as often as they cut her open) but it'll depend on whether she's well enough for it. It's so very very frustrating and depressing. And horribly unfair. And there's nothing I can do to fix any of it. Have I mentioned that I truly hate the holidays? |

Yeah, I saw "fire" and instantly thought of my Team Minus traveling photographer. |
