I'm so sad to have seen some of the most creative people on DPC leaving this photography site, one by one.
First it was Paul- ubique, then Arcady- agenkin, Nick- boysetsfire and finally Aznym-xion.
What is it with this site that kills creativity, or at least scares it away?
Why are people more delighted with cliches, shallow ideas, cheap tricks than with enjoying intelligent photos, often characterized as "dnmc", "bad crop", "poor framing", "too subtle" and so on, by users that are not spending more than 0.5 seconds on viewing each photograph?
But, de gustibus non disputandum.
You can't fight the windmills forever I guess.

I probably will not renew once my subscription expires in March, not that I will be missed as I'm not that active here. I'm tired of the DPC photography model and have come to the realization that my style and the DPC style do not sync. Either I can shoot for DPC, which is not me, or I can move on. The latter is more palatable to me.
I think there is a problem here that needs to be fixed. Look at the participation level of the recent challenges, really low. I don't pretend to know why, but speaking for myself, the subjects are somewhat less than inspiring, and the scoring and comments tend to be snap judgments. If a photo doesn't have immediate "wow" factor, it is middle of the pack or worse.

I agree 100% with Gatorguy. Cept I will miss him here when hes gone, though I can see his awesome work on a local site. But something is amiss on this site. I dunno if its the egos, but if your not in the 'cliche' your assed out. Heaven forbid you give an honest review of a shot thats half slaped together that makes it in the top 3. Only leave attaboys with a mint on the pillow are accepted.

I do wish that when they did leave (and I understand the leaving part, I just wish they didn't, but that's for purely selfish reasons) that they would leave their profile page intact. Let us be able to find their work, even if only the challenge entries, to view for inspiration or just enjoyment.

So the rest of you who are planning to jump ship - by all means jump if you must, but don't close your profile. Thanks.

PS - Leave a "forwarding" address - if you leave your profile up (and it's free to do that - it'll be here for all eternity or until DPC kills itself off) leave a website address where we can find your stuff. Does anyone have such an animal for Xion?

I don't know or care if something is "amiss". It may or may not be a collective failure. This sites undulating rules & politics, unrelated & detrimental to expression or photography are not easy, nor do they necessarily promote an individual exploration. It is his own decision. He has other more important venues to pursue.
It is however, unfortunate for those he has left. His contribution to the dpc dialogue is excellent, and I am grateful for his time & efforts here.
