Just got home from a quick trip to the store, and now I must vent.
I was in the parking lot of a grocery store, turning into an aisle to get to a parking spot. In front of me, an SUV stops and just sits there, and it became obvious that this guy is waiting for a parking spot to open up in front of him. There's a woman who has JUST BEGUN unpacking her groceries from her cart, and this guy is obviously planning to wait for her to finish and back out so he can have her spot.
The kicker? There are numerous, very obvious, very open spots JUST THREE SPOTS FURTHER AWAY, and he's going to block the whole aisle of traffic to wait for THIS SPOT. We're talking about literally an extra 10 steps (I measured it on my way back out of the store).
Thoughtfully, I honked at him to let him know I thought he was an idiot, and he eventually pulled into a spot, three cars further away, and I pulled into a spot across from him.
So he gets out of the car and says to me, "Can't you see I was waiting for that space?" I said that indeed I could see this, and that I could also see that there were ample spots right in front of him, and he was blocking the whole stinkin' aisle.
We argued about it the whole way into the store, in a surprisingly civil tone of voice. But damn, what is the matter with people? Or am I the idiot here?
In an unrelated story on the same trip... I was listening to the radio (KDKA, Pittsburgh), and a reporter (Rob Milford) was talking about how bad the roads are since it has been snowing quite steadily all morning. He began his story by saying he "couldn't fathom" why some people are out driving around needlessly on these roads when they're so bad.
He made this statement while driving around needlessly in the station vehicle! WHY? It's not like there aren't tons of traffic cams situated all over the place from which he could come up with an equally compelling story.
Ok, I'm done. |

Yep, Gordon is more important than you. There is no other logical explanation. |

I had an issue the other morning at the gas station. I was backing into a pump and someone tried to swoop in. I kept going which stopped him. But when I got out of my truck he called me a prick. To be sure my retort was not as nice.
People sure can be rude... |

I hear you and have my own story along the same lines.
I was on my way to work and needed to stop for gas, so I pulled into a station that has a single island of three pumps (can pump from both sides) parallel to the street. I pulled up to the middle pump, behind another car. While I was pumping gas, another car pulled in behind me. Then, a two pickups pull up alongside the other two cars and block me in, blocking the sidewalk as well. The drivers got out and went in for coffee. There were at least 6 parking spots that are actually intended for parking, but then these guys would have to put their vehicles in reverse. I'm done pumping and since I paid at the pump, I'm also ready to go. Everyone else is waiting in line or browsing for twinkies. |

Yeah I was astonished. He was about 5'8" and 150lbs soaking wet. For several reasons it would have been no contest.

I've often thought it best to adopt the attitude that everyone else is just plain crazy - then those really annoying things can be passed off as "well, of course, he's just another one of those lunatics."
It's amazing to me that people will do the things described in this thread, but perhaps they are all just nuts. |

This would also make you a safer driver. Assume everyone around you is an idiot or can't drive, which unfortunately is often the case, and you'll be a more alert driver.

You do not have to assume they are idiots.... in fact we all know they are. |

The sad truth about vehicles is that the loosest nut is usually behind the wheel.

I think the worst part of this truth is that it's not only true, but this same type of person seems to have an entitlement sense, you're expected to know this, and the worst thing? You're to accomodate them.

Democracy of the ignorant, the selfish, those with an entitlement chip on the shoulder, the "I am more important than you", the loosest nuts, the idiots, the pricks, the stupids and the rude. God help me.... ;-)

So is it ignorant, or just pedantic, to have pointed that out?......8>)

Everyone is insane! EXCEPT ME!!
Watched 15 MVA "victims" roll into our ED last night in less then 3 hours because they think they can still drive 75mph on an icy, snow packed roads (on an Interstate).
I drive a F-150 with big ASS tires and 4WD and was only going 40mph on the 65mph hwy to home, and felt it slip many times.
Welcome to snow in Colorado.

What's an "ED"? Is that a typo for "ER" or a term with which I am unfamiliar? In context I assume it's about the same thing as an ER...
And yes, idiots-on-wheels can get ridiculous. Weather issues aside, my particular peeve is watching people outdrive their headlights on the cape's narrow, winding roads...

What I hate is that people don't understand that four wheel DRIVE does NOT mean four wheel STOP.
The second thing is that ABS merely stops the wheels from locking up.....which means that you'll go through an ice-covered intersection straight instead of sideways.
Be CAREFUL, and don't drive over your head.
The smallest miscalculation ends up costing thousands of dollars.

I used to tell lies for a living ... that is, I worked in advertising as a copywriter for 5 years before quitting.
So while I can see through the bullshit in ads made by tire and auto manufacturers, it seems precious few others can. Are people really so stupid as to believe them? Frightening. |

I'm not sure what your point is... ABS, 4WD, AWD, new and improved tire design, all contribute to safety and controllability. I've never actually seen a car/tire ad that claimed they will make you accident-proof...
But I hear ya. I used to write some copy too :-)
