I HAVE to get a good shot of my 2 kids. They are 1 and 7. We are giving Canvas's to all the granparents (4 sets of them) and I just really need to get the order in.
So I am going to try again today.
The problem I have is my 1 yr old is REALLY tiny in size (she is the size of a 9 month old) and my 7 year old is a lot bigger. I have had a hard time positioning them so that they are both in focus.
I have 2 lenses 18-55 and a 75-200 VR
I dont have a speedlight or other special lighting system right now, so I try to use window light as much as I can.
I was thinking of making them lay down heads together...
any other thoughts on how to make it work? My 1 yr old is a constant mover too. |

You might try putting the 7-year old in a chair and having the infant on his lap or something like that...

Use natural lighting. Either outside or a big picture window. Hang up a black or white sheet as a background. Get some toys and have them play.
If you trust your 7 year old, have him/her hold your 1 year old.
Get everything together in the beginning and get as ready as possible. Maybe a 7 year old has a better attention span, but when I've taken pictures of my boys (under 5 years old), I usually only have about 5 minutes before it gets boring.
Good luck |

You can try a little sea-saw pose? There's 3 different shots you can get with that idea... Eldest sat on floor and youngest on eldest lap 1 facing each other, can be a full lenght both looking towards camera, then just by spinning the youngest around so they are both facing the same way, you can do a little train pose, ask the eldest to give the lil 1 a cuddle, and with that you can do a full lenght and head and sholders shot... but for that will probably be best if you place a cushion for the lil 1 so there isn't a HUGE gap for the shot |

OOOh another good pose would be eldest laying down on the floor on his/her tummy and get the young 1 on their back laying down or sitting down, that pose is kind of fun for them as well =) |

how bout something like a 'piggy-back' shot.... could even do that with them lying down with the little one lying on the older ones back...I do this frequently with my nieces...

I would go for 7 year old sitting on the floor and 1 year old standing beside him with little one's hand on older one's shoulder. Then sqeel and make stupid sounds so the lil one looks at you and shoot like mad. Bright light, fast shutterspeed, luck. :)
