I'm looking forward to this 300 fps camera and this 1 million frame per second camera

A P&S with a sensor size of a 40D is what I'm looking for.

Sigma DP-1

Only downside is the 28mm (eq) prime f/4 lens, which seems silly. But perhaps making a zoom that would cover a larger sensor with limited space is an issue.

what can they do better? all I have to say is light saber sounds when you move it quickly! maybe even throw some lights on there!

I love each time they do something new - I have to say .... half the time I don't know what it is and how it impacts me on paper but when I get my hands on it - I LOVE it!!

Another downside is that you can't buy it yet. Even Sigma doesn't know when that will happen.

Hehe. True dat. But at least someone's thinking about it... And it does sound like it's coming, at some point. But 28mm f/4? It'll work well for street photographers, I guess - maybe that's their design market.

Screw the body technology, I want a 15-500mm F1.4 IS lens with no distortion, tack sharp throughout the frame wide open, No CA, 8" minimal focusing distance at all zoom ranges, and the same size/weight as the 50mm f1.8. And I want it to came painted in camo, with a lens hood!

Sounds lovely, LoudDog. Woof. But what I want, and it is beyond misery that this hasn't happened, is a compact, not too great a zoom but starting at 28, not too many pixels, with a good sensor (Foveon or super ccd), and full manual capabilities. It's all there but not in one package. Oh yes and a tilting lcd, thread for filters, a hood that hoods the filters. Screw the scene modes - maybe some programmable options. Low ISO and ISO button. And I don't mind if it doesn't fit in a shirt pocket, I never wear shirts.

Yah... that's where I'm at. There just isn't a "perfect lens". Every lens has trade-offs and so I must carry several different lens to do what I want to do. And since I can't carry everything, I must always decide "in advance" what I *think* I might need.

So yes. Some day I'd like a lens that is as sharp as an L prime with the range of a super zoom, all at f/2.8 and without CA.

Please?

I honestly think the still camera is dead in the next big jump certainly for PJ and probably consumer also. Oh, it will always be there - like film by more as a niche (for you young kids let me convert, "film" - it's a 4-letter word that we used just after stone tablets to record images). Sure there will be improvements like those above but....

The latest flagships from Canon & Nikon are very high res at @10fps... The newer videos are HD video around 4MP stills. I would imaging certainly in PJ's we will start seeing them using a digi video maybe with a snapshot button for starters to get stills at a higher res then the video frames. There are more and more photg doing both now and the publishing & production also, so it's starting to merge more then the past. I did some video in the early 90's for weddings [I'd do anything thru uni to get food & $ :-)] and the gap between the video and the photg in that environ at that time was huge :-) - not you have video guys doing stills for part of the production & photg taking videos of setup's & stuff :-)

Once the mirror is done away with the lense could be placed much closed to sensor giving ways to many things, most important of those is live preview of photo.

i'll miss that satisfying mirror slap... :(

I also miss it. The mirror slap feels good.
But these mirror vibrations are evil.
