Decent cost of living compared to average salary

That requirement pretty much eliminates Durango Colorado from your list.
Our affordable housing panel just determined that "affordable" housing is $260,000. What a joke. |
Or anywhere in Colorado for that matter, although I couldn't imagine living anywhere else, it is so expensive here... |

The big problem in Colorado right now is so many of the decent paying jobs are disappearing. I am lucky because my current profession is booming, despite (or should I say because of) the bad times.

wow and why?....have you been to philly? or anywhere on the east coast for that matter? pretty laid back compared to Hollywood. Very boring out this way but if you're looking for that.....then welcome! And bring winter clothes!

I think it will be cool though, there are really artsy parts and old buildings and lots of character! |

I'm not sure how helpful it is, but I was looking for a lot of the same qualities and actually found myself looking at Maryland. I forgot which cities, unfortunately, but it seemed that if you stayed away from the coast (which ends up not being a long drive), things were reasonable.
Personally, I'm scared of snow.
Oh! And $250k is a great price! For something over 700 sq ft in good old Tucson you're looking at $300k - 350k - up higher if you want any of the newer areas! |

That's ridiculous!!!!! My wife and I have a 2400 sq ft home on ~1 acre of land overlooking the 6th tee at one of the highest rated country clubs in the area for under 200K. |

Looks like South Carolina is about as cheap as 1 hour north of Atlanta.
I have 3,200 square feet of living space on almost 1 acre of land and paid a whopping $120,000 for it.
