I'm off to Michigan in the very early morning. I will in all probability be without laptop. So until I return (which is still open) I will not be in touch.

Be careful Jeanne, we're supposed to get 2-4 inches of snow. More in some areas! Hope everything turns out.

Jeanne, hopes for the best for you and your family.

Everyone, I mentioned in my last post my horrendous trip over the past weekend (where the outbound leg took 42 hours instead of 18 and I returned before my bag even got to my destination -- it went there after I did). I didn't have a lot of energy to take photos with all that going on, but I did get a few. I've processed a few of those that I did take to try to get the feel of how I was feeling and what I was seeing, and I think I've done that, but I also think they kinda suck. If anyone is interested, they're in a folder in my portfolio; comments would be welcome.

Best,

Rob Bruce

Well, I'm in for Free Study that should be consistent with my mid-5 trend there. I just don't get it.....I know I've got all month to do them, yet I always do better in the short challenges. I just never seem to come up with a really good theme/image for the damn things! Oh well....I'll just keep plugging away. I already signed on for the 2008 FSM. I guess I'm just a masochist! LOL!!!

I'm also in for alone in a crowd. I think it's been done before, but I like my image, so I'm gonna run it and see.

It was a peaceful and quiet Thanksgiving here at the Boyd household......the first one of our lives with no family. Lisa's Mom is at that stage in her Alzheimer's/Dementia where she's so garrulous and unpleasant she told us not to bother. I guess I'm most thankful that I don't have to live in that horrible state that she must have to in her head......it's pretty bad, she's mad and suspicious all the time. What an awful way to live! It's just really hurtful for Lisa......her Mom's just *so* mean to her any more. It breaks my heart. I pray none of you ever have to go through this either second, or first hand, for that matter.

Happy belated Thanksgiving and happy Black Friday to the US crowd. I spent the day touring part of Doha, Qatar. It's a city of some wealth and very pretty - also very much under construction. They will host the summer 2016 games. Though I really don't know how anyone will run a marathon then. It's still in the mid-90s and humid there now! But it was nice to get out and see stuff. I did take pics - all at mid day and let me tell you, Qatar is VERY VERY bright. The sand is whiter than in Kuwait or Afghanistan - it's very nearly blinding during the day.

Deb, it sounds to me that once you accepted the inevitability of this Summer adventure, and got all the arrangements made back home, you have had a wealth of experiences. Thank you for sharing your observations with us. It's good to hear and see things about that part of the world that are not coming from the AP.

I've definitely had adventures! I should mention that on the way over there, I got to sit in the cockpit of a C-17, and on the way back, my traveling companion and I had an entire C-17 to ourselves. Lest ye think it was a complete waste of taxpayers' money, they were picking up a very full load in Kuwait (beans and bullets as the saying goes) and taking that to Bagram in Afghanistan. Then they'll bring people back from there. But for that first leg, from Qatar to Kuwait, it was just us! Pretty cool. :-)

Yes, I'd like to echo JuliBoc in her appreciation of your glimpses of the world that I can only equate to the fantastic images that only some such publication as a Michener travelogue can provide, only for real.

I know I have eagerly viewed each "chapter" of your story with equal awe and delight. Thank you ever so much for the views of the world!

Keeping fingers crossed, Jeanne.

My trip to Qatar, complete with touristy pictures. Oh, and it RAINED this evening here in Kuwait. Actual water droplets fell from the sky and everything. Weird....

Oh, and a side note... I bought an iPod. Am I cooler now?? :-) I've felt so left out all this time. And just noticed that left and felt have the same letters.

That is sooo difficult to go thru & I feel for you both. I have a dear friend who is going thru the stages of the disease and her family has just about abandoned her - I do everything I can, but feel so helpless in the face of this "living death". My thoughts & positive ??? gong your way !

Me too. I don't hear too much at the best of times. The last thing I need to do is stuff my ears with interference bearing trinkets...

It is cooler here now, but I really don't think it's because I bought an iPod. And for the old folks (of which I am one), the main reason I got it is because it's the only way to get tunes, other than carrying around the laptop, which can get cumbersome. I also plan to load books onto it. That way I can "read" while at work. Clever, huh? :-)

And should any of you be in the market for reading material, I suggest "A Thousand Splendid Suns" by Khaled Hosseini.

You can put movies on them too, can't you? I want one....I asked Santa for one but I dunno...

I'm waiting for the version that combines a pda, phone, camera, dvd player, music player, and vegetarian chef into one device.
11/25/2007 10:20:01 AM · #1945
The one I got is about the size of two postage stamps. It doesn't do movies, but I understand they do have them that do. But who wants to watch a movie on a screen that small?

Mary, I think you can get all but the vegetaian chef part... :-)

I know...I probably couldn't even see a movie on a screen that small!

I'm in for the Where In The World Is drewmedia? challenge. I think I have a good shot at being in the top 100! Where are all the entries?

Coolio on the Ipod Deb!! I'd go nuts without music. I really can't stand the ear buds on those types of things though.

I'm with you, Patty. I find silence is more precious than music these days. Everywhere I go there is a TV, boom box, loud car stereo, background music, cell phone, etc. Maybe people are trying to drown out the surrounding cacophony with their own favorite sound.

I do have a Nano that I use for my qigong exercise routine. It sets a nice pace, and has helpfully distracting music for the meditation portion. The advantage of the iPod over the CD player is that I don't inflict my sounds on others. YEAH!
