I ran across THIS LINK and some information about this being 'leaked' over on the sportsshooter.com forums today. This is an alleged 'black friday' bargain from Staples that would be coming up next Friday. I just thought I would pass it along in case it is true... it's a great deal :)

Costco had an instant rebate a while ago. They had 2GB cards for $20. I bought 3 of them. I wonder if memory is getting cheaper to make.
I can see why Staples would have such a deal (to get customers in the door), but Costco? |

I bought a 2GB Panasonic SD card yesterday at Fry's for $15. A few days prior, I got a 2Gb card that will be $7.99 after the rebate comes in, and a 2 pack of 1 Gb cards for $15. The prices are still coming down on flash memory, though not quite as fast as it was a few months back.
2 Gig seems to be most bang-for-the-buck capacity right now. I think it may stay that way for a while because of limited device support for SDHC . |

I saw another black friday ad today saying that Radio Shack would have Sandisk Ultra 2 CF cards for $17.99 on black friday...

That sounds suspiciously like a counterfeit. |

As I and others have reported, it's as much the transfer mechanism as the media. My 2gb Ultra II card does 2.5 MB/sec in my cheap USB reader - will supposedly do 10-12MB/sec when I get my new SATA reader.
Regardless of how cheap flash is, a good, fast card on sale is a good deal. Hope it's true! =)

I think the Ultra 2 cards are rated at 60x which should be plenty fast enough for most applications.

The most important aspect of the card speed should be write speed rather than read speed. You don't want a card that can't handle data as fast as the camera can dish it out.

Tell me that while I'm waiting around for my cards to dump. =) |

Its not counterfeit. I know what I'm talking about. Its pretty easy to compare it against a fast card. Just use a 5D and it will be painfully clear. Unless you have a low Megapixel camera don't waist $5 on this card. |

is a compact flash card faster than a xd card? in write speed? i never liked them cause they were so big but if it writes faster and allows me to take more sequensial pictures when im out in the bush then i'll fall for it |

I was checking out the local Staples sale information and it seems that they are having the Sandisk Ultra II 4gb cards for $27.99, which is an even better deal than the original post about the 2gb cards...

According to //www.robgalbraith.com/bins/multi_page.asp?cid=6007-8198 the Ultra II 2GB isn't too bad. But the Ultra II 4GB is slower. |

In benchmark tests on a Canon 5D, the write speed of a 2GB SanDisk Ultra II is 95% as fast as a 2GB SanDisk Ultra IV (a difference of only 0.4MB/sec). If it's "painfully clear," then you DEFINITELY have a counterfeit card! |

This morning I went to Staples - which is literally a 90 second drive from my home. They opened at 6 AM and I got there at 6:15. The parking lot was full, and the line in the store just to pay was probably over a hundred people long. The items I was interested in (a monitor and blue tooth headset) were long gone (they had only 20 monitors).
The black friday teaser items are not worth it. Upon reflection, I prob would have saved a total of $30-40 over a regular sale in the next week or two. But lesson learned/reinforced - I WILL NEVER AGAIN CHASE A BLACK FRIDAY TEASER AD. Life is too short to give up sleep. |

Oh you rookie! Early bird gets the worm. You snooze you lose.
I was at Staples at 4:15. I got 2 monitors (19" wide Acers, $119 ea) and 3 of the Navigon GPS units (me, my wife and for her mother) at $99 ea. We were about 20 people from the front. Got 2 4Gb CD cards (UltraII for $35 ea) and some blank DVDs.
Was being there at 4:15 worth it? I saved over $800. So yes, you betcha. It takes me a lot longer than 2 hours to make $800.
Some stuff was gone i'm sure, but they had LOTS of tickets left over as I left at 7.
Last year I was one of the wackos that camped out all night, at BestBuy. 6:30 pm till 5AM. Saved $1800. Was it worth it? Yes, but not quite to the point I was going to do it again. I was #8 in line, and the store guaranteed 10 each of the specials - I had my pick of any and everything.

They charged me $35. Not sure why, but still a good deal. I bought 2 in early september on a sale for $59 each.

My sale ad says $34.98 for the 4 gig Compact flash. $27.99 is for the 4gig SD cards. Don't worry Prof you didn't get ripped off.

Same here... I picked up two at $34.98 each, as well as a 2 GB MicroSD fpr my cell phone at $17.98. It's also possible that the pricing varies slightly regionally.

Actually I just looked at the ad again -- it's on page 3. The 4 GB SD and CF cards are listed in the same panel -- the SD is $27.98, the CF is $34.98.
I agree, still a great deal, and I bought two.

Add to that $9.19 for ground shipping, though, and who is Transcend?
