The 7-14, while one of the best ultrawides out there is $1700. Not exactly chump change, especially when you compare it to the more affordable Canon 10-22 and Sigma 10-20. They go for half of what the Oly 7-14 goes for and on APS-C cameras are true ultrawide lenses. The 7-14 is big and heavy and is considered a specialty lens.

The Oly 11-22, while also a terrific lens and more affordable is not an ultrawide on a 4/3rds camera. According to the Olympus lens roadmap they will be releasing a consumer grade ultrawide sometime in 2008, hopefully. It should be have a focal length around 8-16 (16-32 35mm eq).

The biggest gripe I have with the 7-14mm F4 is no available polarizer or filter. Otherwise great sharp lens, got mine used for 1200 from B&H.

id have to say, even though the lenses are expensive, they market and make them for their cameras. so they are made to work 100% with their given camera's

I was told the E1 was tested to 1/2 million with no problems but they went with the 150000 rating so it did not come back and bite them in the butt!

I never heard that but if it's true that's great. Whatever it's been tested at or rated for, I never heard of anyone complain that their E-1 suffered from a dead shutter. It's really built like a tank.

What's also very good news is the OVF. Large and bright with 1.15x magnification and 100% field of view. With the exception of the E-1, most people complained that their OVFs were dark and tunnel like and very hard to manually focus.

Yep I would love to hold and see through that view finder, Biggest gripe I have with my E510 and E500 is the small viewfinder. The penta prizm on the E3 is huge!

I can't wait!

LOL...I Hope you didn't do that to your camera!
Great shot though. Reminds me of a sagittal view of an autopsied body.

OK so I get home tonight from work and check the mail. To my surprise there is a nice size envelope from Olympus waiting on me. I let my son open it, as he likes to help me open all of the camera stuff I get. To my surprise its a nice letter from Olympus thanking me for being a E-1 owner(where I started in digital) there is a nice Olympus E-series pen and case, and a $100 rebate form if I buy a new E-3. So my question is, what do I do with this 100 dollar savings I have..........I do have an idea if someone is 100% sure they are buying the camera and is interested in it.

Dangit! I didn't get a $100 rebate. But I did get a nice DVD showing all the features of the E3. I can only watch that so much... Did you get the dvd also? Im searching for that rebate in the envolope.

As far as the joker who said that there are no affordable ultrawides available for 4/3's, they obviously haven't used the 7-14 F/4.0 or tried out the 11-22mm f/2.8-3.5... for those who use them for artistic shots and for architecture, they easily pay for themselves.

Couple of small corrections... the sigma & canon lenses are not splash/dust proof (if they were, they'd be a bit higher in price)... the 10-22 and 10-20 mounted on an APS-C camera is still not as wide as the 7-14mm. The Canon/Sigma lenses only have a 96.7 degree field of view compared to the Zuiko's 114 degrees. The price of the Canon is around $800... you can get the Zuiko for around $1500 brand new.

Sure the zuiko is 11 oz heavier than the Sigma... And costs around $700 more... but do I think its a good deal if I get weathersealing, higher quality optics, a 17.3 degree horizontal field of view increase? Yeah, actually I would pay that just fine and think its a reasonable price for the lens.

Just picked mine up! They didn't have the HLD4 yet(Vertical grip.) I gotta do some practicing up to use all these new features. The viewfinder is awesome! I can't wait to put this thing to task!

So is there any further feedback from those who've bought/used it? I would love to hear about it :)

Out of curiosity, I played around with an E3 today, and I was extremely impressed. The VF was as big and bright as my pentaprism K10D VF, and I thought the ergonomics were perfect. The grip was a perfect match for my hand, and it felt at least as solid as my K10D, if not moreso. AF was fast, silent and accurate (50-150 lens). I took a couple sharp test shots at 1/15, 150mm... thats 4 stops of IS! Live view was... interesting, but I didn't play with it for long. I have to say, I was very impressed! Congrats to Oly shooters on a solid semipro model.

I have been using mine for a month now. (Well, hardly using, since I have been busy moving and doing other things). Yet so far I am quite impressed. I choose this camera over D300 (would have even if I didn't have some good Olympus lenses) when I wanted to upgrade, and although D300 is "more" of a camera than E-3, E-3 suits me better. It is a jack of all trades: 10MP, just enough for landscape, 5fps, just enough for sports, extremely fast AF with the new SWD lenses, Olympus isn't kidding when they claim "world fastest AF". Very comfortable to hold and operate.
Colors are excellent, high ISO noise close enough to 40D and D300.
I think I'll stick with this camera for the next few years...

I heard a rumor (fom the source himself) that the E-3 ranks might be joined by the most illustrious of DPCers- hint: first initials are jj

So... now that a few of you have picked up the E-3, what do you think of it?

I say buy one. This is simply an awesome camera, Olympus has done its homework. Everything I wished for and more, Im still amazed at the iso3200. The IS is crazy good, along with the 5fps. Another thing is the viewfinder, it huge, yes bigger than anything in this price range, D300, 40D. Not as big as a 5D, but same height, the 5D is wider. Overall a very solid camera, with classic Olympus imaging quality.

I have mine since about 1 month ago and love it!
Unfortunately they started selling this at the beginning of a less colorful season with short daylight! Looking forward to more photo oportunities!

Interesting... did you happen to notice that the E-510 made the #1 spot as well?
