All kinds of results are up in the results thread. For now, I added Gordon, SaraR, and CWelch to Team Zombie. I'm sure other teams would like them. |

Hi all,
I don't want to make a "thing" of this, but I'm going to make myself scarce for awhile here, and won't be entering any challenges. RobM, you'll probably want to move me over to Team Zombie for the immediate future (though perhaps not until after the set of challenge that are currently in voting have completed; I leave that to you).
I need to reconnect with what it means to me to be doing this, and while I thought I could do that and still enter challenges (ie, score be damned), it seems I can't, so rather than fight that feeling, I'm going to stop trying to weld those two together for awhile and just concentrate on doing what I want to do. In the past, this has meant I haven't had enough incentive to shoot (it's the challenges that have encouraged me to try something new and to get up from working at my "day job" -- which I love -- and do something different), but this time 'round I will need to make sure I do shoot. I'm thinking of a series of shots based around a place, a feature, or an idea, and going from there, and hopefully that will be enough.
I do truly believe in Team Suckâ„¢ ideals, and I envy those of you who can get past the low (or relatively low) scores on shots you truly like and thought would do well. I will continue to stop by and look at what you are all doing, and comment (especially to restore my comments given/gotten ratio to something respectable), and perhaps will come back once I get past my current photographic "plateau with lulls."
Best to all, and keep shooting!
RobH

Rheverly, definitely going to miss you, Bruce. Hope you'll find your mojo soon and return to your family here at DPC.

Rob/Bruce/Rob, I'm glad you're not leaving all together! I'd miss your comments immensely. Take all the time you need, come back refreshed. And remember it's what you do off the site, photographically, that should mean the most to you. Think how happy you make your family and friends with your photos.

Wow.....I don't even know where to start.
You have always taken the time to thoughtfully and helpfully encourage, cajole, and just in general, be a good friend and supportive when I am off in one of my little tantrums/hissies/self-indulgent snits.
You are compassionate, considerate, literate, and a treasure here at TS.
I don't know what to say to a reasoned, thought-provoking statement that you're going to step aside except to perhaps just say.......please don't go.
I'm sure that I speak for more than just me when I say that your comments and input are most valuable and enjoyable, and that it won't be the same without your input on a regular basis.
I would certainly hope that somehow we could be of assistance if time and opinions would be helpful.
I know that you've been involved in side projects/challenges before, and I love how helpful they are.
To me, this TS thing extends so far past competing in challenges, yet ultimately, it's how we end up reaping the benefits of what we learn here when we step out of our comfort zone. It's humbling, and motivating to have to experience the angst that goes with the voting.
I look at the last challenges that you've been in on your profile page and I see that your top three have been in the last few, and that you have a 77, 82, 88, and 91 percentile in your stats.
That doesn't look too bad to me.
Seems like you're being awfully hard on yourself.

Best of luck to you Rob. I'll miss seeing your work, of course, because I think you do some beautiful stuff. But I hope you find the time away helps you regroup and find perspective. Take care!

meyers, please disengage Gordon. He has been "volunteered" for Team Suck, which is not how it works (per our bylaws: step 1. we admitted that we were powerless over sucking, that our photography had become unmanageable...). He hasn't even received a secret mission!
And Rob, I hope you consider a side challenge or posting photos in Reaction Club. I will gladly give you feedback on any photos, as would many of your other Suck Teammates.
And while we're on the subject, let me tell you how DPC is working for me right now. I currently have a bokeh entry that's at 4.48. I don't take the literal approach that it means I have a bad photo, but what I do is I think, "do I love this photo so much that I don't care about the score?" DPC forces me to take that kind of hard look at my photo and what it's worth to me. It also reminds me of the difficult compromise an artist must make as he finds his vision, his niche. Many will never understand it. The important thing to remember is that alienation* of the audience is a side-effect, it's not the goal!
*I'm oversimplifying here. It can and has been argued that a certain amount of alienation should occur in order for the audience to break through to a new realization. What I refer to is the complete loss of the viewer, the SHRUG as he clicks "next" or "3" |

We'll wait a bit until the smell gets really bad before throwing you in with the rest of the zombies. Oh, and "there can be only one" (sorry, couldn't resist). |

Hey Bruce - I know from whence you come as far as the silly challenge things go. I vow to quit entering after the first day of every challenge. I even posted it on my profile page a week ago - "That's it, I'm done!" Then I entered duotones with what I thought was pretty darn close to a top ten! I was so sure! Now I'm back to "I'm not entering any more challenges, dammit." And I won't for a week - nothing for Stop Motion (nor do I wish to shoot for it) and the two opens don't do much for me either. I did go shoot today, though, and at some point will post a My View of Kuwait thread with the results. I find that a whole lot more satisfying anyway. And the side benefit is when my family asks for pictures and stories, I can just send a link to the thread. :-)
Do stick around here, though. Can't have Team Suck without a Bruce, you know.
Edit to add - an idea. Wanna start a folder called "Not Entered" and shoot for challenges but not enter? I've often thought of doing that... Still gets you out shooting based on a subject, but alleviates the stress/disappointment of not meeting DPC voting standards.

Originally posted by Gordon: I do have a secret weapon though. Be careful or I'll force you to gouge out your eyes to stop seeing it. I particularly like the way it makes my eyeballs thrum. Co-incidentally one of my favourite DPC entries, ever. Looks terrible as a thumbnail, much better large. A little colour theory is a dangerous thing.

Ah! A *real* skier!!!
I hesitate to ask, but are the boards near 200cm?
I ski on 200s for slalom & moguls, and well.....longer for powder and stability.
But I'm big and I'm old school......my skis and boots are all chopped up on the insides from being together all the time.

Oh.....I meant to do this earlier, but I got so happy for Lea, I forgot about it. She left me a nice comment and then I remembered.
I had originally submitted this for Duo-Tones before I realized that I had 'til Sunday, so I used it for Single Light Source.
The funny thing about that was that I hadn't read the challenge description and didn't know that it was supposed to be artificial light, which it is, but only by accident.
The other two things that amuse me are that this is in a clock tower, which obviously, you cannot see, and this shot is in color.

In true Team Suck form, not only are my photos misunderstood, so are my questions ! *lol*
Just posted a question in Web-Site Suggestions today, and had to go back to clarify it.
Sorry - it just made me laugh.
