I had the opportunity to photograph two of my great-nieces yesterday...the girls had a lot of fun but it was quite challenging to get true smiles out of them (as opposed to those fake ones that 10 year olds often share when asked to smile for the camera). I don't have a lot of posing ideas but I thought I'd share some of my personal favorites from the shoot. Any tips or suggestions are appreciated.

Laurie, I think they're gorgeous! Definitely, any pic with Courtney should be color because of those amazing eyes. In some images, it looks like one's green and one's blue, and they're just beautiful! Both are very cute girls, I really think you did an awesome job capturing them both.

Courtney's eyes are different colors...one is green and one is blue. She hates it, but I think they are beautiful. She also hates her naturally curly hair, but I talked her into leaving it down for the day.

Thank you so much for your comment...I am hoping to branch out a bit and do some portraiture work for some friends (holiday family portraits) and need the help! :)

Laurie I know what you mean about young girls phony smiles. What I did with Paulina was to set my camera on burst mode, after she heard the first shutter she would relax and I got a few more natural smiles that way.

Your great nieces are beautiful and you have some great poses.

Thanks! I did shoot in burst mode (most of the time) because I sort of figured I'd have to catch them off guard to get anything decent.

I showed these to my niece (Courtney's mom) and she was so happy with them that she showed some friends at her work...now I have three portrait settings coming up for holiday pictures. Guess it goes to show that old "be careful what you wish for" rings true. Now I have to perform! :)
