Steve, this is a very eloquent and moving prayer. One I will try to commit to memory.

we went to the cenotaph parade this morning, and, it was, as usual, heartbreaking. the sprog was very good, and stood still and silent for the two minutes. then this afternoon, i sang with my choir for a legion, and we sang for 3 hours.

remembrance day is a day i work very hard to keep alive, and taught about it in both england and botswana, and continue with the sprog.

here's a link you all might be interested in: A Pittance of Time, a song by Terry Kelly, about Remembrance Day, and the man he saw in a shop insisting on being served during the silence. he wasn't.

another little thing:

In Flanders Fields
By: Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae, MD (1872-1918)
Canadian Army

IN FLANDERS FIELDS the poppies blow
Between the crosses row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

I too attended our ceremony this morning. I took some photos, even though the noon sun made things very difficult. I then created this little tribute based on today. Heroes of Freedom
(it will likely not work very well on dial up)

I am going to create 4 albums of my pictures for today, to be distributed to the 4 Veterans gathering places in my city. (Legion, Air Force Club, Naval Association, & Armoury)

If anyone else took photos at their local ceremony today, I encourage you to consider dropping off an extra set of prints to your local Legion.

And......maybe it's a sign of growth and/or improvement, but it's another that I just like and the heck with how it scores.

That said, I think it's not going to be middle of the road.....I think it'll either do really well, or I'm gonna get spanked *hard*.

I have a shot I think would be great in duo-tones, but that mode is disabled in PS2 for me! This isn't something I've used before, so I'm not sure what I need to have to get this working.

Edit: Nevermind, someone reminded me the picture has to be black & white first.

If your image is in 16Bit, you need to change it 8Bit, then convert to Grayscale, in order to get the "duotone" option available. Must be Grayscale, and must be 8Bit.

Thanks. I have a picture that I really like, though something tells me it's a 40%-range shot for DPC.

Funny that WWI remembrance. OK, not funny. 11th of November's a national holiday in France, but bugger all in Norway, presumably because they were neutral and uninvolved. They were supposed to be the same in WWII, but they got occupied and everything went pear-shaped. I was school librarian for a brief spell and noticed there was close to no material that dealt with the great war - they've had to include it in the curriculum now on account of being more involved with Europe etc.

Obligatory link.

and here's my grandad having a quick pose while training troops on Steatham Common:

I've entered a dnmc in duotones - heh.

Am I missing something here?

I may have submitted something that isn't kosher.

Does this entry have to be processed with some kind of duotone feature?

The description reads: "Your submission should only consist of two tones (black/white, sepia, etc)."

So I'm taking that to mean that there may be other ways to arrive at that.

Sepia is not B&W, right?

At first I thought my dnmc duotone was ok, but now it's running 3.77 and I really like it.

I thought mine would either be really good or really bad in the voters' eyes.....it started at 5.7 and now it's at 6.0.

my duotone has a 6.2333 and I have no idea why...

I'm guessing it will jeb today and tomorrow.
11/12/2007 09:37:26 AM · #1694
My duotone started at 5.5 the first time I looked at it, it was at 4.75 this morning when I got up, and now it's at 4.8462.

My Duotones entry is in the process of jebbing as we write, and this process started pretty early. At 20 votes it was at 6.6 (which made me realize I would soon have a "Jeb attack"); now, at 27 votes, it's at 6.444. I, too, like our fearless leader, have no idea why it's where it is (other than that I picked the right tones; I did, but I didn't expect anyone else to really realize that). Don't get me wrong, I like the image and I'm tickled pink it's above 6.0 (I figured it around 5.8 if voters are feeling kind, and that's where I expect it to end up), it's just all a bit confusing.

My duotones is at 5.2. I'm hoping for a reverse Jeb.

Well, I was closer to winning this race at 32 votes with 6.28, but have now squirmed my way back up to 6.4250, and two very nice comments. So, as they say, I can't win for losin'! (not that I've ever understood that saying, but they say it).

Susan ( snaffles), has your score dropped significantly since it started? A DPC score "jebs" when it drops during the challenge, usually somewhat precipitously; it arose as a team suck term a few pages back in this thread . . .

A reverse Jeb with a triple lux, perhaps . . .
