You may say, whats the big deal.
One word.
Networking.
Oh sure, we network here at DPC, but, Sport Shooter is a whole differant arena into the pro photographer world and photojournalism.

Congratulations! If you're into sports photography, that is a great site to be part of.

Only now? You've been shooting good sports stuff for about as long as I can remember being on here. Congrats on being accepted. It's definitely a great resource.
I'm a member also, here's my link (don't mean to spam.) |

I didn't realize we have several DPC people who are members over there. I have sorta been thinking about joining SportsShooter for several years, but never bothered to follow up on it. I just spent a little time browsing the forums over there and think I'll give it a try. One of the guys I work with is a member there too and he's been nagging me to join for the last year or so, so I think I'll give it a try...

Congrats. I know a couple of members of SS, but alas no one to sponsor me. It's a tough crowd that one.
This business really is about who ya know.

sea2c: You can apply for a membership without a sponsor. That's what I did.
Just make sure you put in 10 of your best images, and caption them. Use spellcheck, and get someone to check them if you aren't big on writing. Have someone you trust/respect go over your portfolio too before you send it in, and see if you missed any that might actually be better.
It's a community for people who work in the field of photojournalism, so if you actually do it's not a big deal at all to put together a portfolio that they'll accept. Even if you just shoot some sports for fun, but read their pages about joining to see some guidelines just in case.
If you upload a series, like Thomas did, then the captions aren't as big of a deal but I consider it like any other portfolio, you want to show versatility and some style.
Honestly, as it was brought up on another forum, it's kind of in their best interest to accept people, since it brings in revenue, but if you violate any rules in putting together your application they probably won't. |

My application is in with a sponsor, so maybe I'll make it... maybe I won't :)
