Let's have a once per month challenge where the only folks who vote on it are the ribbon winners from the prior month. Just for the hell of it.
Replies to this post signify agreement. The reason you think this isn't a good idea is a really stupid reason and everyone will laugh at you for posting it. This is the best idea you ever read. |

Yup, Homogenization is a great thing. Let's do it. |

I don't agree with Router very often, but I like this idea.
Or have a group of members sign up to be on the jury and commit to voting and commenting on every entry in the challenge. |

Give me a break, you've got the same 150 people voting on every single challenge as it is. |

Yup, that's why I agreed. It simplifies it this way. |

I say let a monkey pick the winner. |

With only 36-40 people max voting on a challenge, there is less of a chance that the influence of their individual tastes will be homogenized as happens now.
Plus that pool would probably rotate at least half of the judges in and out every month, so I think you would more likely see different sorts of shots gracing the front page more often than the way things go now. |

I assume they'd rotate out faster than that, assuming they aren't allowed to enter any time they are voting.
Though the last site I remember that did this had the same 5 people winning every week until it shut down. It's a spam/ link catcher site now.
Would you take the ribbons off them if they didn't vote enough ? :)
I don't particularly think a juried challenge is a bad idea, I'm just not convinced about the method of picking the jury is all.

Don't understand what you are saying about the not voting enough thing. One juried challenge a month, only people eligible to vote are those who won a ribbon the prior month. Lather, rinse, repeat. |

and if they don't vote ? Many of the people who win don't vote at all. Like I said, I don't think it's a bad idea. People would at least know the names of the 'troll' voters.

Ahhh. Yeah I don't know. I don't even remember what I thought was so novel about this idea actually.

I might consider this as a viable alternative (albeit on a trial basis), but only if the jury was required to vote on each individual image in the challenge... anything else would be a monumental waste of time.
