I would just like to say a massive well done to Richard42 on coming 11th in the freestudy with this stunning shot

You can probably see a flavour of Simms-processing in there, but the guy did all the work himself (it took a while but we got there)..

Any other success stories to share?

This is really awesome image, you were not wrong about it.

Awsome Processing, id say a lesson in spot contrast would do well:) i know, ive gone back and fourth between my images saying, I think that would look better with more contrast. :) but all in all, I love the shot, Heres a small rendition i did of it with spot contrast. :) Enjoy Befroe N After

Congratulations to both Simms and Richard for their collaboration on this shot. It is a very great image. I gave it a 9. :)

My mentor bassbone and I also had a succesful free study, as I have gotten a new personal best and also my first 6+ image. I finished 121st, which is th best I have ever placed in a free study with:

This image beat my previous best image by over 0.2ths of a point. I would just like to thank bassbone for his help and guidance that he has given thus far.

*-Rich

I would like to apologize to those I agreed to mentor - my internet access is such that I can't really help out very much. If there are any kind and generous souls who would be willing to lend a hand, let me know and I'll check with my as yet unmentored mentorees. Thanks.

We are still working hard at it but since starting, Quigley has added 3 photos to his top 5 entries.

Conrats Max, many more top results to come.

What is the method of communication? I wish we had private forums for this like the DPL has. All of my mentees are located half way across the world so that makes IMing difficult.

Robert, would you be willing to take on my mentorees? BAMartin, riversong, and cosprenks. I just don't have reliable or fast enough access these days to be of much assistance.

Agreed Richard half the time I forget to turn on MSN and then when I do think of something I want to contact you about you are not online! Forums would be much better messages can be left and collected whenever it suits plus there could be group sharing as well ;)

Robert, I think you may have a problem with your e-mail, as I sent you two PMs, but no answer. I shall try sending another .

congrats matey - always nice to get a new PB.. I think RIchard42 and I are going to have to work hard to beat his new PB, still I am up to the challenge if he still is.

Well, I'm pretty happy to say that since we started, codfish has submitted two PB's, and is edging his way towards 6's.
I think we're both learning a lot from this exercise.

Thanks to Mark for kicking this off. And congratulations on your blue in the FS Mark - photos like that renew my love of photography.

My 2 mentees Sarah and Michele are doing ok, Sarah just hit her 3rd best score (still no 6 yet but it's definately coming)

Michele is working on her technique too. and has just won the posthumous BLUE in the free study, salute to her.

We communicate through MSN and a forum

My group started a Yahoo group to manage our dicussions. That way you all do not need to be online at one time and the discussion can continue when people are online.

I definately agree Murray, It's been a major learning experience for me. The feed back before entering helps to avoid tunnel vision in regards to my shots. How many times did I re-edit my free study...8-9 each time your comments helped me to take it one step further.

Thanks and that first 6 is on it's way, but probably won't arive until 2008!

You probably suggested this before or someone did. I've not used yahoo groups before. Does it function just like these forums (i.e. create threads or at least be able to post photos/screenshots?)

Ditto

I have sent a few emails through without a reply asking "where to next", I did however get help with my Free Study photo from you (thankyou) but was not really sure if that was how you wanted me to go or not.

He, he, magenmarie got a ribbon since we started this mentor/mentee thing. As has agaricus. Which is funny, because I haven't figured out what to do as a mentor :) So, at least in Michael's case it's just coincidence, but, WAY TO GO, APPRENTICES! You guys rock!

Could you mentor me, too, please ?

Nov 12, 2007: Ursula gave me my first assignment. Correct use of reflectors. Wonder how I can stop motion with that. Perhaps if I hit people with the gold side?

On the other hand, I still do not have a mentor. Is someone willing to help me? I know some of you are overloaded, but if there is room somewhere...
edit: I am in Kansas, Central Time zone. I am thinking that hooking up with someone in the same time zone (or close by) as opposed to half-way around the world, might make it easier to do this.

I'd try it on a train. Stopping a train is a good idea. Use either side :)
