Just wanted to share some small excitement. On the advice of my dad, I submitted my "Icarus" shot from Sports III to the official magazine of the United States Hang Gliding and Paragliding Association, Inc. (My parents are avid paragliders.) I don't think it's a huge circulation, but it's probably somewhere in the tens of thousands (my guess, couldn't find any stats). The editor said she would have put the shot on the cover, but she hadn't given enough face time to hang gliders. ;) Instead I got a centerfold spread. I've never been published officially before.
Anyway, just sharing a little bright spot in my day.

Hey hey hey congratulations old man... It's about time you got noticed by someone.. hahaha too bad you had to send it to them to find ya.
Just kidding Doc, I send crap out all the time and I'm sure I get all kinds of things like "yeah right not this crap" hahaha..
I would love to know what you know and have something out like this.
This is a wonderful accomplishment and you deserve every bit of it.
Again congratulations.

I don't want to be TOO nosey, but did you get some nice compensation for such a nice photo? Don't need to know how much, but I just wondered if YOU send something to be considered for publication if they actual pay you for it. |

I have only recently heard about/seen/gotten interested in paragliding. It is gaining in popularity on the Lake Michigan lakeshore where I live. I have gotten some good shots, but have missed a gazillion fantastic ones because i am not familiar enough with the sport.
Your shot is great. Deserves the center-spread. Although I like covers, it is the inside pictures that mean the most to me... and the center shot is like da bomb!!

Out of curiosity, how do you go about it- send them a print or email them asking if they would be interested in using the attached photo? Just wondering how one may go about it. Thank you for sharing.
