Sorry to hear, Brad. Doesn't take away from the shots themselves, of course!

Regardless the outcome / decisions made, most anyone here knows how helpful and giving you are Brad. I read your OP and, before you could even say it, I KNEW there was a 'no big deal' in your mind - you're just that kind of guy. I'm also sure SC will do their utmost to be fair and just.

Sure, it would be disheartening to give up a virtual ribbon, but we all know that the real-life events are way more important to everyone involved. Kudos to you Brad, for having your priorities in order.

Add to the "freeze it" that it may work for a little while standing on it's edge or upside down too, as you try to extract files after the freeze.
Thumbs up to you for good character and for going into the eye of the storm to preserve the story in pics.

Seems there is a happy ending to all of this after all.

I found out what happened and it was my doing. The MKIII I was using did not have auto-rotate set in-camera, and when I put the originals on my computer, looked at the contents in Irfanview asusual and I rotated the shots that were sideways. That's where the EXIF got tainted.
By chance, I was looking at the image here at home, and when I looked at the EXIF, I saw that I did in fact have the orginal:

I would ask the SC to trash this thread, but ya know, someone just might learn something from it as well as it being a great way to say thanks to Terry and others on the Site Council from extending the time needed to get an original of Nick's damaged drive if needed.

Thanks everyone.

The best reason to keep this thread visible is because you handled yourself with class and deserve credit for that.

I'm very happy there's a happy ending to this!

Woo Hoo! We're glad you are here, after the way it went when you were shooing the pix. It's good news that you found the original file.

Suspend him anyway for creating a bit of an uproar.

Just kidding. Glad you're not going to lose a well deserved ribbon.

Well Nick was having his files recovered anyway. whew

I've always had the in-camera rotation set to be on, so this was something I have never been through, nor ever guessed would happen.
It's been a hectic week - hope ya'll can forgive this brain fart.

It would be a travesty if Brad's poignant image were DQ'd although I do understand the rules. It is a testament to his integrity that he has taken the position he has. It will always be a ribbon winner in my eyes.
Glad it got resolved :)
