this is no way a rant, im just more so curious as to everyones opinions on this.

this one was taken alot better than my triptych entry... why would you say it was? They have the same concept behind them

Well, they did score almost exactly the same...

But I do agree that the knife one is better. It just looks like more thought and effort went into the idea, composition, lighting and processing.

well as far as scores are concerned they're almost identical... but as far as placement I'd say the competition was stiffer in the Triptych- it had a higher median/average score and had more entries.

Personally i like them both but I think the triptych is a more complete, solid image, as something throws me off about the 'cross my heart' pic... i love the way the woman is lit but imo there needs to be more light on the blade, it is sort of dark as it stands

why do you say they were received differently? they scored about the same, 5.7ish... Of course, the topic of the last challenge implied un-happy end, so your second image was less shocking to a predisposed viewer... both are very strong, IMO.

sorry i should have elaborated. I am not talking about score at all. Just how the photo effects you as a viewer. in my triptych image i had alot more negative comments, where i got alot more positive comments on cross my heart and hope to die. where they are showing off the same thing.

The "Cross My Heart" picture had a TERRIFIC title, a great play on words. It calls up a whole scenario of faithless woman and avenging man. If there were light gleaming on the blade, that image would have finished a LOT higher in the challenge.

The "Domestic Abuse" image is a lot more graphic, and correspondingly less dreamlike and more distressing, IMO. I think it finished about as high as it could.
