In one of the comments I read today, someone (was it cogerox) asked about a softbox. I showed this setup in an earlier side-challenge and bring it out again for anyone who is interested. You can buy one of these at Calumet (Around $70) or you can make your own. Approximate directions: Take a large box and cut out the sides (leaving sturdy posts at the corners). Staple or glue translucent white fabric to all the sides (well, except the front) and there you have it.

I thought a soft box was a large diffuser that went over the flash, I would call your set up a light box, but I am no expert. I have a soft box similar to this:

For my second photo I got excellent suggestions to either clone or crop out a bright area (on the left). Here is what it looks like modified:
OriginalClonedCropped
Both are better than the original. Thanks for the helpful comments!!!!

Karen, you are correct, of course. What I have is a "light tent" according to Google. Directions for making one are here

Sorry for the confusion. That's what I was told it was called when I bought it.

This was yesterday. I didn't have any time to shoot today.
Things are snowballing at work now, as I work on packing machinery and refrigeration equipment. Harvest is about to begin, and I plan to go for a 10 day run to Mexico for the Baja 1,000 (1,300 mile) off road race and a couple of days of deep sea fishing at Cabo San Lucas next week. I may not be able to continue to post and comment due to time constraints. Thank you all for allowing me to hang out for a couple of nights and share some excellent pics and comments. I will try to catch up with comments when I return after the 20th, Nov.

Day 4 - Erie Canal at Night. Gray skies this afternoon got me out this evening for a night shot. Glad I did, this turned out much better than this afternoon's take.

November 5

the beach at Crissy Field

I was on my side of the Bridge today watching people enjoy the splendid weather. (Fog? What fog?) today was a bit hazy, but no fog in sight. It was tough selecting which picture to put in, the sailboats on the bay, the fountain in the park, or the people romping in the surf. You will undoubtedly get versions of all the above before the month ends.

This is probably pushing the water theme, but the snow on Mt. Shasta in California was gorgeous.

Actually we are supposed to depict water in all forms and states. Fits right in. We undoubtedly will see more snow shots as the weather gets colder during the course of November.
