Back to Dear Creek Falls for this black and white version of a shot I took last month. All the fall foliage along the river had died and turned brown, so I thought B&W would work better than color. I used a yellow filter when I took the pictures to increase the contrast.

This looks GREAT in black and white. That puts such wonderful emphasis on the swirls and foam.

Composition is great. Contrast between very bright waterfall and everything else is excellent. Like the different patterns in the water.

The yellow filter worked well for this, to get the leaves to stand out like they do, and to darken the water. Filters still have uses, even though you can do a lot in processing, filters can get the necessary part of the mix to stand out right from the raw shot.

Love the bright white of the waterfall. I really like your b&w conversion of this.

This looks like a wonderful place and you made a great photo of it (otherwise it wouldn't look so wonderful). Didn't see the colored version, but I think you're right to convert it to B&W. Perhaps the water of the fall is somewhat too bright, but all other parts looks great to me.

This is beautifully composed and defined. I'm not a fan of the slow speed waterfall, but here it is a good element and a wonderful contrast to the nicely defined small rapids below. Yeah, and I love the dark stuff.

A very good composition. Your processing gives it an eerie feel, like I'm alone in the woods and something bad might happen. It's always good when a photo can convey emotion.
