Today, the POTD honor goes to the ever beloved, ever gracious, pitsaman himself. The photo I have chosen is Aurora Downtown.

This shot shows the character of a quaint little river town. The shape of the buildings is effectively captured, especially the first one there on the right side. The toning furthers the enhancement of the mood of the picture by removing a lot of contrast. That makes the shot look a little more "old school," a good thing for this composition.

My only gripe on this one would be that lamppost dead-center. Of course, removing it was not an option, and it isn't sticking out too bad, so this really isn't much of a gripe.

Anyone who wants, visit this shot and leave your comment for pitsaman.

Steve, I think this POTD event should be reviewed maybe reconsidering the reasons why Faidoi dropped it.

I think that the approach chosen by Pitsaman yesterday, proposing a pic but actually emphasizing a topic (Emotive) and asking for further photos/suggestions was a better one.

Alternatively, if you want to invite people to comment on a single pic, you should choose pics with a great WOW effect every day and that is not at all an easy thing to do.

The photo you chose today is a good example.
It's a good photo (I would have rated it 7, if in a challenge).
However even if well done, it misses that WOW effect which is strictly required, I think, if you want to attract people to comment on it.

That's why, instead of assigning volatile honors, maybe it would be better to choose one (or even more pics) to use them as a starting point for discussing about a particular topic or technique.

IMO the wow effect is not always the interest in a photo discussion. The interest may come of techniques, subject, etc... So this shot is interesting and has a mood in it. I like it too.
