I can't believe how many great cameras are coming out right now... the new Minolta A1 looks pretty good, but I was managing not to feel too greedy as I love my Optio S, and the ridiculously small size of it. BUT I've just looked at the Pentax website, and there's a 4 Megapixel version of the Optio S coming out!! Grrrrrrr! Sigh!!!!!
I'd love to be able to print out decent 8*10s or 8*12s from it... which is just a little beyond it's capabilites at the moment. 7*5s are excellent though.
I need lots more money!!

Well Bobster, I'd say you're doing just dandy with the current cam! beat me roundly and soundly in the insect competition, so much for expensive equipment :oP

the A1 looks to have the same body as the DiMage7i series and with that in mind would someone point me to the nearest one. The 7i has one issue, the camera shake. Sounds like the A1 has corrected that problem.

Little warning if you haven't held a DiMAGE don't go look at the A1 when your hands are tired and the weight of your camera feels like a ton. Unless of course you are planning to buy it that day. DiMage has a very comfortable fit over a lot of the other slrs.

Totally! Something tiny would be great. I don't know how many times I've been running or riding and seen a shot and wished I'd had my camera along. That, and since I've 'too many cameras' according to my family members, I've been guilted into sending my Sony DSC-S50 (small but not very small) to my brother in Ontario, so I'm down to the 10D and the F717...

It surprises me just how few people still don't use an Optio S. Is it that much more expensive than other similarly specced cameras? I used to be a very enthusiastic photographer when I was about 13 and had my manual 35mm, but I just got fed up with carrying it everywhere, and self-image became an issue as well!
The fact I can throw my camera in my shirt pocket and forget it's there is just amazing considering what it can achieve. I'm waiting for the day I can fit something in which is smaller with the spec of a top end digital SLR :-)
And I actually find it easier now to take a shot with a slow shutter speed (1/10) with absolutely no shake, which I can't do with a bigger, heavier camera. That was one of my major concerns when I first went shopping for a compact.
Perhaps I might sell my Optio S when the new one comes along... watch this space.
