Still doesn't answer the question...

I'm not very patient when it comes to these matters.

I still haven't got a reply from SC so I can't offer any information.

UPDATE

At 7 minutes to the rollover I finally got a reply from SC. The email stated that they see I have entered the non-textured version and that it was probably the safest way to go.

So that just goes against what was said in this thread. Now before anyone thinks I am stirring the pot....I will make it clear....I am not causing trouble.

The question in this thread was about added textures in Advanced Editing. I feel my Free Study textured version was not adding new elements such as clouds (as per a post in this thread). And so to be safe...I submitted it to SC for an opinion. And the above reply from SC contradicts the statement in this thread.

So now I am confused.

Luckily I entered the non-textured version...but I am still interested to know how one can use textures and not be classed as adding new elements?

Talking about adding features. 90% of that challenge should have been DQ'd. Judi, I think I would have added the textured version with that pic and a link to Impressionism in the Photog's comments...lol

I'll be perfectly blunt: when asked questions about editing, we wait until at least 3 SC members have given their opinion before responding. In relation to Judi's question, we didn't have that prior to rollover, so gave the best answer we had to give. Its no secret this area is contentious and that not everyone agrees about it, including members of Site Council. We're discussing and trying to come up with a solid answer, but we don't have one right now and we don't recommend anyone use a separate file to create texture. Use the tools available and currently deemed legal through convention and hopefully we'll be able to give a more solid answer soon.

Yes we've allowed it in the past (as Kirbic says) but because there is another way of looking at textures that would make them illegal (ex. as added features and not just creative edits) its open for debate now.

In reference to the statement about using textures in this thread - //www.dpchallenge.com/forum.php?action=read&FORUM_THREAD_ID=696642 I want to get a quick decision by the SC.

And you asked about it less than seven thirty-one hours before rollover.

We are not all sitting around a conference table waiting to deal with rules question for the whole day -- we have jobs, families, and might even be trying to finish off our own entry before the deadline -- I know I usually am. I find asking for a "quick response" about a controversial rules decision during the countdown to rollover is unrealistic if not unreasonable.

Remember too that the two or three SC members who reply to your ticket are only offering you an informal opinion anyway -- they could easily be over-ruled in an actual vote on the validity of your photo, so a quick-but-inaccurate response may be worse than no response at all.

If you have a question about editing, especially one which involves a subjective interpretation, please submit your ticket as far in advance as possible.

Weird, I thought rollover was on the 31st.

Ugh, I guess I can't count ... at least the last part's still valid -- inquire as early as possible ... and edit conservatively if in doubt.

further to the point being made by GeneralE, we've said it more than once that we need 48hrs at least to answer tricky questions because we want to get as many thoughts from council members on an issue before replying, so the safest way to go is to always have a conservative (you know for sure its legal) edit version to submit.

No sweat. I can't count how many of these issues are "open for debate" as Frisca says, so I can relate.

you're telling me! I didn't think the rules were so difficult to follow until everyone started getting so creative with them!

Back when we had the Classic Editing rules in effect, I wanted to see if I could make a bordered, non-rectangular image, so I conducted an experiment ...

The steps are in this gallery.

I used a similar technique (to no avail) a couple of years ago with this entry ...
