And I wouldn't have been able to get the good focus with my old camera, so again, thank you Team Suck!!!!!!!

Absolutely gorgeous! ... I actually stood up from my chair and jumped up and down.

HUGZ and congrats! What a head shakingly beautiful image.

Welcome back, Svetlana - it's good to see you back with the Butterflies. Hope your time away, distressing though it may have been, made you stronger.

Now I just have to lay off work long enough to enter some challenges myself. :)

I'm slidng the other way - nothing in for either of this week's challenges. But I've got what I hope will be a doozy for the free study.

Svetlana: welcome back! Can't wait to see what you've got for us. :)

quiet_observation and NikonJeb led the scoring in the last two challenges. Congrats also to rheverly for his top 5.

And I think the Blue Ribbon winner for "From the Ground Up" looks an awful lot like one of levyj413's shots.

luckily, I didn't start at 7 so I'm very happy with this score. ;)

The score has been going down a bit. If it stays above 6 I'll have 3 challenges in a row without a 5 score. How long can I maintain this streak?

I'm pretty happy being on the good side of a 5.0 for once. Not sure if I'll break 50%, but I should easily break 5%.

First, I want to apologize for having a meltdown the other day in public. I'm kinda stressed with my mother-in-law and being unemployed. I also am sick. Not an excuse, but at least an explanation.

I have to remember to keep my perspective, This was the first time I had such a rockin' score that wasn't gone after two hours. And it was also the first time I've ever had a score slide for 5½ days. Again, no excuse.

Having looked at this from a little different perspective, I have some things to say. I didn't even know how to use my camera when I got to DPC......I learned here. I learned how to use PhotoShop here.....well, sort of, I'm WAAAAAY still learning that!

Then I got to Team Suck, and I got my first 6+, and a ribbon at the same time, and theoretically.......learned that it's *not* supposed to be about the scores. I'm obviously still working on that, too. Yet my scores *do* keep improving. Three score milestones happened for me with this challenge. My average vote recieved went past 5.25....I was a member of AU5 for quite some time. My profile page scores are all above 6.25, and four of them are above 6.6! I'm an idiot if I can't see my own improvement. And lastly, I got a *rockin'* score with a balck and white image......more on that later.....

BUT.....the coolest things?

One.....Don made mention that I should be more than aware how much the side challenges bring to us in the way of learning and development. I used to hate B&W and was pretty much convinced that not only did I not care for it, I just didn't get it, or want to see what it was all about. Two 30 Day B&W challenges, I get a 6.7226 in a challenge with a B&W shot......and when I looked at the original when I downloaded it out of my camera, the first thing I thought was this HAS to be a B&W shot. I would never have learned that were I not exposed to these side challenges. I love and understand what B&W can be all about now.

Two.....This family. I was looking at Svetlana's profile the other day, and reflecting on the way that she is just such a stone natural and what a gift she has in the way that she expresses herself and brings her images to life. I realized that I missed her a lot, and suddenly realized at the same time that there are so many of us that I know through their style, and who they are through their images. And also by their actions. Like Deb's honoring the Cinnabon guys and Lea's work for Kasey.

Geez, maybe I'll freakin' learn something yet! I posted this image that was an experiment.....[thumb]602450[/thumb]

And somebody gave me the best compliment by saying that it reminded them of purpleflutterby13!

What a compliment, and it also made me realize that this was something I would never have even tried had I not seen Jelena's fine work.

meyers noted that the Ground Up winner looked like one of Jeffrey's shots.....sure does to me, too! His various and sundry architecture shots are a landmark of his style to me.

......and I know there's so much more I'm not even touching on.

So I am delighted to be here, I learn so much from you guys, I do improve, and am still doing so even if I forget to look, and again, I humbly apologize for being whiny.

Wet noodle lashes for me. I have been DQed from the Beginning challenge. The entry was doing so badly that I had considered a self-DQ, so maybe the SC did me a favor. Does anyone remember where the penalties for DQs are written? I searched hard last night, and couldn't find them, although I do remember reading them once upon a time.

Do you mean Team Suck penalties? Ain't none!

Question....I know I'm supposed to comment on the challenge that I was in for not sucking worst in that specific challenge, but do I have any further punishment for the Momentary one that's across the board?

Sorry to hear about your DQ, Julianne! That sucks, pun intended! I wish site council would do me a favor and DQ my Something Old shot - the score is abysmal. Unfortunately, the sucker's legal as could be.

Anyway, in terms of penalties - your first DQ results in no penalties. If you get a second DQ within the next 25 challenges entered, you can't enter anything for a week.

The weekly leader in scoring gets to bask in their own juices, er "glory". We used to have this person comment on all of the entries that week, but there's just too many of us entering challenges now.

And when I saw your last post I thought you had found an image of purpleflutterby13 that you liked. I wonder what my style looks like.

I think we had a similar exercise last year, but more along the lines of what are my strengths. It was a fun topic, so I'll start off. :)

Rob, I think your style has a lot to do with scale. The relation of scale of subjects in the frame giving your captures a nice 3d dimension. You are also very prominent with strong visible lines which help define the scale and also to give nice movement in the frame.

Here are some examples:

So, who's next? :)

WAY cool!

Jeb, I'd say your recent post shows you to be the kind of introspective, goodhearted person I've come to know over the past several months. Well done. :) And thanks for the kind words to you and Rob about my spiral staircase shots.
