Good to know you're paper-trained, but can ya roll over?

Wait is this a how I will vote thread? Ok here's mine:

<=== will be voting on how well the photo moves me. Renactments, imitations from previous entries or elsewhere need not apply. Actually, they can apply so I can give it the proper score. :P

I am sorry if that was mentioned beforeĆ¢€Ā¦ are fashion photos, like a model on a runaway, with a very shiny or interesting dress, or outfit, and lots of makeup conceders journalism if I put a headline such as "hot for winter" or "new from Paris"? If that would be on the cover of a fashion magazine, even fashion portion of a newspaper.

I don't exactly don't know what "Journalism" mean? Any help?

Simply put, it's telling a story about a newsworthy event.

Define newsworthy. :P

So, what I asked would be "newsworthy" for some, and conceder photojournalism? Because if it is, that's what I am going to shoot for.

That's dependent of the viewer... human interests usually makes a story a bit newsworthy. Tragic events tend to stir us. Protest, political rallies...

Runway fashion? I dunno... I s'pose so... but might be pushing it for a lot of voters.

Sporting events won a few challenges. Fashion is not sport, but there are also sport photographers, so, even you think I might be pushing it, would it actually be better with a very good subject line as an headline?

You can probably make it work. A good title will help.

You can still shoot RAW + JPG if you want a personal copy that is in RAW. Just be sure to use the JPG version when submitting.

Do you think reading the rules of the challenge might help? ;P

I've entered a picture which is current and local, with a title referring to something entirely different so that very few people will 'get it'.

I expect to score between 4.5 and 5.5. Anything else would be newsworthy.

Shoot in RAW+JPEG then you're covered.

Also in case someone else runs into this, you have to tell Lightroom to separate the raw and jpeg versions of each shot on import or the stupid thing stacks them and displays them as a single image IMG_0123.CR2.JPG making it rather hard to work with.

I am not going to enter to this challenge. I live in NJ, and I will leave space for someone who lives in California, and takes good pictures of what happened there. I think one of those pictures deserve to win, at least that I can do :(

There are not many casualties, which is GREAT news, so, even photos might be devastating, all that can be replaced.

Best of luck to Californian people.

Don't not enter due to those reasons...

I have been in the middle of this mess... We have lived through four days of non-stop News footage and photos... Over and over same ol shiznit. Usually with a media twist, sometimes with the media making their field reporters out to be the heros. I'm actually pretty sick of seeing things as presented by the media down here.

Believe me when this is over there will be too many photos of the fires, we have so many free lancers down here in SanDag sneaking in to get shoots (for what ever their motives are) it isn't funny.

Where are the photos of the other side... How tight this entire are is, how it came together so quickly. In the middle of this tragedy there are some really good things happening, lots of really good stories.

Bottom Line: Enter your shot...right now we need to see shots of stories other than the how bad the fires are/were as told by one photo.

Ed:
One - I said Anchors above but meant Field Reportors, the anchors did a fine job. Only on over zealous FR seemed he was shooting for a purlitzer.

Two - be clear that I am not diss'n anyone here on DPC. There were many photogs I was in contact outside of DPC during event.

Hey Leroy, From your tutorial, Is your channel mixer conversion to B&W method legal in minimal editing?
10/25/2007 03:04:38 PM · #74
No channel mixing is allowed - it has to be a direct grey scale conversion.
