Hello DPC community! I've been using this site only for 2 years now, and it's great. The only thing that gets to me is the unnecessarily long time allowed for voting. I feel like 99% of votes are in within 5 days, and the last two days pretty much stand still.

I would like to know if anybody is interested in shortening the voting period to 5 days instead of 7. So challenges would still start on tuesdays, and end on sunday and 12midnight. New challenges would be announced sunday at midnight and you would have an additional 2 days (on top of the usual) to submit your photographs.

In the end:

Less time for voting
More time for creating the photographs
Happy DPC community?

What do you think?

This may be true for the non member challenges that end on Tuesday nite. There are many people that vote on the weekends. The member challenges end on Sunday nite. This would mean fewer votes for these challenges...

Your Sunday midnight is my Monday 2pm or 3pm when YOU have Daylight savings.

I think the weekly turn around is simple and works well.

The voting time is fine for me.
I think if we shortened the voting time, we'd get less comments too

Personally, I would like to see the voting for the monthly Free Study extended to the whole of the following month. The entries are often outstanding, and I thoroughly enjoy the voting process, but rarely have time to get through them all.

Wow Sara, if I ever got it right and scored 7+ in a free study I think I would have a heart attack having to wait all month for a result!

I see your point though with 500 plus entries it would be nice to have some time to vote on them other than a week with other challenges to vote on as well.

It does't matter...we've asked for higher resolution for over a year now, and THAT hasn't changed. Why would we think that the time in voting would be altered?

if your going to have Poll in the title why not actually have one :)

Should the voting period be shortened

I think it is fine. There are times when I wish it would end early but in reality if it did then there would be some votes I would be missing out on. Especially with the large challenges you need that time. If you shorten it people would rush through only part of them and not give them a good critique and others they would never get to. I say leave alone.

If voting users are so scarce right now, imagine shortening the voting period...

That was kinda my thought as well.

Can't say that I would support such a move.

I normally make several passes in the voting process, adjusting my scores accordingly. As things now stand, I am sometimes hard pressed to vote on all of the images within the prescribed time frame.

I truly cannot ascribe a plus value to the suggestion made and as such would much prefer the retention of the status quo.

I agree that "it feels like" voting goes on about 2-3 days too long.

My own careful research has shown that the voting period is not a set amount of time, but varies dramatically depending upon the score of the entry.

Entries near your profile average take about a week to vote on. The farther away from that average you get, the longer it takes. Personal best and personal worst scores extend the wait to about a two and a half weeks. Anything close to ribbon territory (blue or brown) requires two months of voting. Scores above 8 or simultaneous 7+ entries basically cause time to stand still, and the pace of voting becomes slightly slower than continental drift. :-/

I wish I could do more such research ;)

as for the original post, I like the current timing, even though yes, it does feel long from time to time.

i normally dont get to vote on all of the images in a challenge (especially free studies) cuz internet is slow as hell out here. but a week is ample time in my opinion for voting.
