Sunrise reflected off a building, and the actual sunrise.

Day 18 - Mine

Ok so this is WAY out of left field.

I took my model (husband - GRIN!) into a dark room and played about with bounce flash ONLY! No other light, just my Sunpak flash attached to my camera but on the tripod at 90 degrees counterclockwise. I played with the angle of the flash and also used a large piece of white corflute to manipulate the 'bounce'.

Had LOADS of misses and a few I liked.

The played ridiculously in photoshop with this image - looks a bit unreal I know, but it's kinda nice to see my husband in a different light - GRIN!

Meanwhile he barely recognises himself, can't stand the pronounced freckles and life marks on his face - but strangely did appreciate me using the burn tool to slim down his face!

Not everyone's taste but a VERY good exercise in lighting!

Oct 18

These racing boats were tied up this morning as I drove by in the park. They were right at the edge of the tree shadow area so it made for an interesting, but difficult shot to get. An added bit of the puzzle: mist on the lake.

Day 18 - I'm at Cedar Rapids, IA. Weather isn't much fun over here.

My apologies, I am REALLY back on both submitting and commenting, but I've been fighting with my dialup again.

Okay....I got this one to upload, and I actually have some details. Wide open aperture, slow shutter, 28mm focal (42 w/small sensor?), lying flat on my back in the middle of the foyer of the state capitol, and just the light that comes in the windows in the dome, and some lights that are around the walkway just above and inside that first gold ring.

The info booth lady said they're quite used to idiots with cameras lying on the floor!

She was a HOOT!!!

Another dome in the Pennsylvania state Capitol......this one above the Sepreme Court. Once again, flat on my back on the floor. This one is total ambient light, once again, wide open aperture, slow shutter.

Day 18 - draw

Melbourne Zoo Saturday morning 10am.

Under an enclosure with sunlight coming through the left had side.

Quite dark from where I was standing - Focal length 100mm

Had no tripod so the best I could do was take a deep breath and hope - SMILE!

ISO 100 (probably should have gone up but didn't want to miss the moment)

Another try at yellow. This was taken in partial shade to try to prevent blowout.

A few more.

Guess that means I'm caught up to day 3. Procrastination always was my strong suit ;)

Natural light in the early evening. Tweaked the shadow/highligts, levels and curves. Cropped so you can see the detail.

Day 19 - Finally back home. Taken from the Cedar Rapids Airport.
1/20s, f4.8, ISO 640, EV -.3
Intentionally used the Incandescent WB to give it a blue feeling.

Hopefully I'll have some time to back fill some the great pictures in the past week.

I wish I had more time to take more pictures/comments for this side challenge. Nice job everybody.

I'm just glad I had time this afternoon to shoot about an hour :).

Shot between dinner and heading to the bar with about 5 minutes of moving things around in our room. Switched on the big plasma TV for some fill and colour. Opened up the window to use the Vegas strip for some background lighting. Moved three of the standing lamps in the room in to provide the main lights - took the shade off one and laid the other over the back of the chair for more of a direct spot, then shot in tungsten white balance to keep the orange cast down.

I guess I've missed a week here, so catching up while I can.

This one was taken on a slightly damp day in Yosemite valley. Fall is in full flight there just now - lots of leaves on the ground. The clouds were drifting in and out with very occasional glimpses of sunlight - so it was overcast but actually a pretty bright day. We are under some trees here, but still with a fairly clear view of the sky because most of the leaves have fallen. I'm standing about 8 feet up on a big boulder, shooting almost directly down - so I've got all that big sky behind me as a soft box of sorts.

In other news, a 1DII is a bit too heavy to take on a 13 mile hike. I need a lighter camera.
