I see by your profile that you are a voter, and that's good. We need voters here. DPC is a good site to learn about digital photography and to interact with a lot of nice people.

Thanks for the welcome, I did enjoy the circus... oh you meant the circus here. Yes I am a voter, I figure if I can't vote for your pictures then I can't expect to have people vote for mine. I also wish I had more time to comment. I love to read comments on my shots, especially the "mean" ones, because they help me get better. When I started voting on the fauna I was commenting on every one, but it was taking too long, so I just went through and finished voting. I guess I can go back and comment later if I get time. I did take time to comment on the really good and the really bad. How do other people try to mitigate this? There are just too many pictures to comment on. I look forward to entering into my first challenge this week. Although the topics aren't easy in my mind, so it might not be a stellar shot.

Welcome Travis - I'm a newbie here too (relatively speaking)...been here since June and have learned a tremendous amount from a lot of very talented people. I think you will thoroughly enjoy it.

So how many more votes of 7 would I need to get to 7.0000. And yes I realize that technically there is no amount of 7s that would get me there so maybe the question would be more like how many votes of 7 would I need to get to 6.99996.

How ya doing there Mark?

That's an interesting equation. You need either one 9 or two 8's to get a 7. 19,865 7's for a 6.99995. Wooo that's fun, the mouse button would've been totally worn by then.

Edited for clarity.

Hmm. I get you need one 8, Tim, to reach 7.0.

137x6.9927=958 points. Add 8 and you get 966. 966/138=7.0.

The easy way to get the answer is to multiply the fraction by the votes: 0.9927x137=136. So you need to get something to get you one point above 7, and then you'll have exactly 7. If it'd been 133, you would've needed 4 points above 7 to get to 7, while getting nothing below 7: 4 8s, 2 9s, 1 10 and 1 8, etc.

I was thinking of a real solid 7, without rounding. One 8 gives you 6.9999. But it works :)

There must have been a rash of troll voters - looks like everyone went down. I'm currently at 7.3760, down from 7.41 this AM.

Edit to add: unless there's a lurker with a really high 7 out there, we ought to have fun over the next few days, Puckzzz! We seem to be doing the tango.

It seems it's the usual Friday/Saturday downward spiral... :-(

You gotta remember there are only whole point totals, not decimals. Yes, 6.9927 x 137 literally equals 957.9999. But that means the real point total was 958. So really his score was 6.9927007299 ..., which rounded to the four decimal places DPC displays is 6.9927.

So one 8 gives him exactly 7.0. No rounding. :)

I just love academic discussions. :)

So Tim, did ya get it? I just got a 9 (yay!) followed by a 4 (sigh).

Noraneko, dear, sweet teammate, that probably means today's voters averaged "only" 6.5 or higher. Hardly qualifying as trolls! :P

I know of an undeclared score in Fauna that's been running in the high 7's so everyone in that challenge might need to reset expectations a little :- )

"Houston we have a problem."

And I figure there are probably several high 7s in both challenges. I doubt that my score will make top ten in either. But I still wont complain about a high 6/low 7 in my profile.

Slippery things those bananas . .

Like you I won't complain of a high 6, in fact I'm currently on a PB. My first 7 would have been nice . . but hey - considering I was badgered into entering this by my wife I can't complain :- )

I knew it! I'll keep that dancing banana in my pocket for a little while.

Back up to 7.41 this AM though!
