My searching shot sucks:

Probably not a brown, but definitely not appreciated (and not really a good shot, either, on reflection; I should have taken it further to get the effect I was looking for).

Anyway.

Best,

Rob

Perfect. Thanks to all who answered my question. :)

I'm in for flora. It will score poorly, and if I'm lucky it will receive no comments during the challenge so I can sport two of those ribbons. I have odd goals.

Oh, I'm not thinking it'll make it to a PB.....though that'd be terrific!

I'm just hoping it'll make it to my profile page as a Top 5.

I'm in for fauna with a shot that I think is one of my best ever...but as I say that...lol...of course the voters will squash my dreams.

Ya know......I hear this a lot, and maybe I'm just nuts, but I know I'm no Skip, or Larus, or Joey Lawrence, and I have been finding more and more that the amount of satisfaction that I've been getting on the one-off shots that nobody is expecting, or that I do for a good cause, just gives me more than the couple dollars that I could hold out for if I was so inclined. I'm no professional.

I am on the board of directors of this organization, and I did this for CASA, and for the children of the CASA program. Dr. Siemers is one amazing, funny, and truly nice gentleman, and I made a terrific new friend from the portrait shoot, plus gave him a couple of the shots on a disc. His wife said that never has anyone ever been able to capture him in a good light relative to a grim look he usually has when being photographed. So I was able to do something really nice for them. He is performing this concert gratis to raise the funds for CASA, so my contribution is minor in comparison, and the president of the board is a printer and is providing the flyers as his doantion to the cause. This organization is the most giving and caring organization I have ever been exposed to in my whole life and I am delighted and proud to be a part of it.

My daughter and I have put together a couple of ads for the gallery where I have work and that does my framing, and the families of the cheerleaders that are on my daughter's team all love my stuff so much that I just don't think that a name in the lower corner or the odd $10 is all that big a deal.

I love what I can do somnetimes with a camera, I know that what talent that I have is nothing *I* did, and IMNSHO, to a certain extent, I feel that it was meant to be shared, especially if it makes people who mean something to me smile.

Maybe that's why my wife calls me PollyAnna, but I'll take that warm fuzzy over a photo credit or $10 any day.

I'll still take the $10, but I won't hold out for it over a chance to share my work.

Now if you want me to spend the afternoon at the park in the snow doing the family portrait for a Christmas card, that's different!.....8>)

Oh, and Eve......I'm just effusively proud of our CASA folks, PLEASE do not take this as any kind of rebuttal to your comment about photographer's credits. I realize to a certain extent that my attitude doesn't help the photographers whose work should always be credited as it's their stock in trade. But that's 'cause I'm just a happy hack! LOL!!!

Hi all!

Wow, everyone's here today! Lea, cute shot of Bear, esp with the b/w treatment - definitely brag-worthy...

Deb, you may have seen it already, but the shot Don did for Deja Vu os quite priceless...see the link on page 38...:-)

I'm not in nuthin' right now, been busy working, packing and getting ready for da big move. However did shoot some nice sunrise shots this morning, just so I remember how to take pictures ;-)

And am planning to make the leap to DSLR soon...Nikon D200 seems like a pretty decent cam and Ernie's given me some useful Cdn-based sites so I can take advantage of 2-yr warranty.

So I may as well go vote!

Bye for now

My OPINION....

Since this is your first venture, get a D80 and buy more/better glass with the price differential. The D200 will be dropping in price like a stone pretty soon once the D300 starts to ship, and as a low end user, I won't appreciate the minor differences between the two for 90% of the work that I do, so maybe you won't either.

You'll get the familiarity with either unit, and after about 16 months, I'm still at a point where I'm working with glass and my owner's manual before I would even consider an upgrade on a body. My D70s meets my needs PERFECTLY, and I'll probably keep it 'til it's worn out.

Just my $0.02 US.......YMMV

Almost put my Flora II shot in Fauna II. Oops. I mean, it would be one thing to do it on purpose, but here, it was just plain fatigue from writing so much today. Anyway, I've checked it twice since then, and it's in Flora II ...

Great stuff going on here, by the way . . . Julianne ribboning, Jeb getting shots actually used by real people, me and Kelli diving in the "searching" challenge (by the way, I have a comment that I won't mark as helpful on my searching shot, which I almost never do), Deb entering a floral shot while living in a place without much flora, people helping each other answering questions and helping with shot choices . . .

. . . it's all good!!

Enjoy, everyone,

RobH

Remember: it's "flora," not "floral." Any plant, not just flowers. My personal hope is that something non-floral wins.

Thank goodness, because mine isn't a flower. :)
Hopefully the voters will know the difference, though I couldn't type it to begin with. Cheers and good luck to all.

I did the same thing (when I wrote about "Deb entering a floral shot" when I meant "Deb entering a flora shot"); oh well, I just checked my entry again to make sure it was in the right category (no, really, I did).

It is.

'Night all!

I've been trying to shovel a path through my own snow. I had ideas for flora, but the plant store didn't have the type of plant I wanted to shoot. They had discontinued them for the year just a couple weeks before!
