I've read a number of threads on this topic, but couldn't find the help I needed.
I purchased Aperture with the belief that it would run on my powerbook G4 with 1GB of RAM. Unfortunately it is so slow that I cannot use to process the output from portrait sessions. The mac upgrade will have to wait awhile (24-70L is next on list), so I'm wondering if LightRoom would be a better performing solution given my outdated hardware. Does anybody have experience with these two products?

FWIW, lightroom on windows is a huge memory hog too and slow on older hardware. Dunno about the mac version, but I suspect it wouldn't be much different.

| I have the same setup (G4 with 1 GB of RAM) and Lightroom runs decently on it. Not the fastest program I own, but it gets by. It's a bit slow rendering 1:1 previews, and I can say I've been frustrated at least a few times, but it's definitely not as bad as Aperture seems to be running on your computer. |

| I use lightroom 1.2 on my laptop (Pentium M, 1GB Ram) For me it runs fairly fast. But yeah large imports and exports do take a while. |

I ran Aperture on a G4 with 1.25 SDRAM, which was a functional experience, to put it nicely.
On my desktop (iMac 2.33 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 2 GB DDR2 SDRAM) it runs entirely smooth and fast as can be. |

| From what I've heard the direct answer is, yes, Lightroom will be faster than Aperture on a PowerBook, BUT it will still be sluggish overall. You really need a G5 or Intel Mac to use such heavy-duty software. |
