Please - not Nostalgia. =( We've just had 'The Past' - Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!!!!!
I can't take sifting through 300 sepia / b+w photos of old sewing machines and antique furniture. What was wrong with the 'Power' challenge - or 'Minimalism' - or 'What Is It?'... check them all out:

I'm out of this one.

I totally agree. Not another bunch of "old" photos. How about something for us city people like bums, or street people, or street vendors or public transportation. Anything please!! |

Hmmm, I would've thought that nostalgia would be images from NOW, that remind us of our/or the past ? ... So no sepia tones ... Just Mom's apple pie ;)

I´m agree with both opinions... I think there are a big relation between past and nostalgia (remember something past). But, I am sure in this challenge will have brilliants shots.
So, come on guys take excellents pictures for me, please...

An important difference here is that this time we're under normal rules - there were a number of people who really didn't like the 'no edits' rule: now's their chance.
It'll also be intersting to see how much influence the winning shots take from The Past challenge.

e301 - I agree it might be interesting to see if there's some variety since The Past challenge - normal rules or not, but isn't it just plain dull? I mean, there have been some great suggestions. The world is large and varied with masses of subjects just gagging to be photographed - but this is just mindblowingly dull, dull, dull. It will generate yet more sentimentality and this site is not exactly short of the stuff!
People will probably stop suggesting challenges soon... |

I am agree with you John and e301... I think the past challenge´ll have an important influence in this challenge. I´ll hope see very, very good pictures. As you said Jon, the world is large and I think we are going to see interesting pictures about the past of differents country and differents culture.

Well I Looked "Nostalgia" up on dictionary.com and came up with this.
1.A bittersweet longing for things, persons, or situations of the past.
2.The condition of being homesick; homesickness.
So this is a completely diffrent challenge than "The Past" was.
plus its an open challenge wich means I can try and shoot something dreadful ;)

I'm not complaining...I like this challenge! I already have a dozen things running through my head and not one of them have a thing to do with the past. |

OK, so the definition is different. But why run a new challenge even slightly close to one so recently similar? Sounds like The Past, Home Sweet Home and Trends rolling into one - with maybe some Tools thrown in too. ;)
Naz, it give you the homesick definition as being different - are you going for a literal interpretation? ;)
Just seen your food Kosta, now I feel nostalgic on your behalf!

I'm currently stuck in the centre of London so I would also like a challenge for the City folk! Perhaps - 'Rubbish' ? |

Nothing nostalgic in grand ol' merry England? Think that London is chock full of those types of things?

It's sort of like Hollywood films of late - no real 'new' ideas. Although I'm thinking of doing a tribute to the 80s era as nostalgia as opposed to b&w or sepia stuff. We'll see. |

the description of the challenge at hand says
use your camera to take the viewer back to another time
i think that sums it up well - despite a dictionary definition
the question is what time the photographer chooses
discounting things ahead of time... wait and see what is posted.

Yes it's about taking the viewer back to another time but the important thing is that it be a time you remember and would like to recall - in every sense of that word. I remember my kids when they saw their first model train set (I failed miserably in pulling that off for an entry) but the point is that nostalgia is about emotion, not fact.

I am new to this site and reading the replies on this thread does not register with me, as the past is the past and in my view nostalgia is someones memories of somthing old or pleasant that needs to be remembered if only for there own pleasure. So come on and vote anyway give people some feedback and opinions. |

In my case there's been color photography for as long as I've been around, therefore bright colors made the most sense when I thought of my past. |

I'm with Katherine...I went with color. Black and White was very tempting but I think I just like to be different. :)

I went with color too, but am concerned that mine will be one of those considered way out of the box. Oh well, to each his own, and I can only hope that others will get it. I'm just beginning to learn about my camera and what it can do along with my imagination. I have unsubmitted my picture for this challenge numerous times and finally decided to go with it just because I really like it. I'm looking forward to comments I may get on it! |

I went with color as well. My idea was that nostalgia was someone's personal past or history, while the past included a more general cultural setting. Besides since my pictures are normally a week before or after the actually challange having the same challange two weeks in a row would make it a lot easier to enter ;-)

i also chose to go color. i took my submission and tried it in greyscale, but i didn't like it as much as i did in color. like was said before, it doesn't have to be "old" or black/white, just has to invoke memories of the past..
