Miss Muffet is an acute arachnophobe - we shouldn't consider her opinion without a release from her psychologist (Dr Seuss??)

As long as you are being so precise with regard to arachnids versus insects, you must acknowledge that there was nothing in the original rhyme that implied that Miss Muffett was an arachnophobe. All we know is that "along came a spider, and sat down beside her, and frightened Miss Muffett away". Was it because he (it) was a spider, or did he do or say (making an anthropomorphic assumption) something that was the cause of the fright? :)

Well, that would be very frightening to say the least. However, Miss Muffett may have been using common sense. Since the spider's taxanomic group was not identified, might Miss Muffett have been leaving the aforementioned tuffet to avoid receiving a venomous bite? Was the spider's intent omitted from the rhyme intentionally or by neglect.

Surely there must be a nursery rhyme expert in the DPC group of experts? Do we have to rely on the likes of Paul Harvey for "The Rest of The Story"? Can we drag this thread out for at least a week?

basically
an insect has 6 legs
and arachnid has 8
although - centipedes and milipedes have more than 6
legs

i think its up to the voter to make / or not
make the distinction.

submitting off topic pics is not good
its a challenge for a reason, working with a specific
topic in a short period of time.

if you cant fit the requiements dont enter the challenge

i'll admit, i'm one of the guilty spider sumitters... after i see all the comments on my picture saying "spiders aren't insects" now i feel like a dummy... sorry 'bout that.. i didn't know it was discussed before the challenge began.
