Sorry I have been busy all day and fell behind my homework :)

Everyone has sure given me enough to think about in macro.

I think I will check the dealers prices on the 50mm-1.8 Macro, and the 100mm/105mm-2.8 macro lenses, and other 1:1 lenses. And probably go with one of the lower priced lenses for all around use for right now. If I get these two I will have four lenses.

I did not realize there was that much just to get a good macro shot!

Kirbic thanks so much for the helpful link. And thanks to everyone else for the great links.

I will keep you all informed.

Anyone has anymore macro shots or info jump in :)

I bought my 10D a few months ago and purchased the 35mm f/2, the 70-200mm f/4 and the 50mm f/1.8. I have also had some problem getting really sharp images from the 70-200mm f/4 lens handheld. Granted this was my first D-SLR and I think some of it is inexperience. It is also large and heavy for me to handhold, so I most often use a tripod with that lens. The 35mm f/2L tends to overexpose a bit so I usally use some exposure compensation but find it to be pretty sharp. I've had good results with the 50mm f/1.8 lens and can't believe how inexpensive it was in comparison to the others. I want to purchase a macro soon as well as a wide angle zoom, so appreciate all of the helpful information found in this string.

I've got no problem with handholding the 70-200 F4L myself. I am astounded by the quality of the lens. Wow. As sharp as you could get. Three shots I took today, straight outta the camera aside from a resize:

I spoke wiith my camera dealer today and he offered me the following after discussing the lenses:

1. Canon EOS 10D Kit
EOS 10D Body
Eyecup
Neck Strap
Video Cable
Interface Cable
Battery Pack BP-511
Battery Charger
EOS Digital Solution disk/Photoshop Elements 2.0 CDs

2. Canon 28-90mm F4-5.6 USM AF
I'am worried the Canon 28-90mm F4-5.6 is not good enough for low light
I may have to change this lens out to a lower F2.8 or etc.

3. Sigma 105mm 2.8 EX Macro lens

4. High Speed 1 GB Compact Flash Memory Card

5. Extra Canon BP-511 1200 MAH Lithium Battery

6. Canon EOS Speedlite Flash

7. High Speed 6 in 1 Memory Card Reader

8. Camera Bag

9. Lens Cleaning Kit

All for around $2,500.

I think this should hoold me until I can upgrade later.

Calvus, What brand of CF card? I've noticed a huge difference between the brands in my 10D.

Have you shopped that price around on the web? Basically you're talking $1200 for 2 lenses, a CF card and a flash.

...also, don't assume the flash is a Canon unless you ask them specifically for a brand and model number. You may think you are getting a nice Canon flash, only to find out you are getting a $49 flash that will work on a Canon. Don't assume anything in these package deals. I got burned once by not asking detailed questions. Now I ask everything there is to ask and more before I buy anything. They don't like talking to me much, but I won't get ripped off again...

KBrown is right, the lens cleaning kit, camera bag, and card reader are likely to be cheap, inexpensive, poor quality crap that they throw in to make the package look better in a "List" of products. The CF card may be bottom of the line, lowest quality they can find as well.

I know when I (very recently) shopped around I couldn't find any dealer in my area who could come close to what I could get online. I like to support local dealers, but I saved about $400 buying online.

I asked for the Canon 420 EX. He was looking at the printout I had.

I figured the other stuff would be cheap I am going to look it all over Thursday or so and sub what I want.

I'am also taking all of my old EOS equipment to try it out before buying it also.
