WHAT! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

I'm hurt - actually, I've always told myself the only reason I'd switch to Canon would be for the 5D, so well done mate, I'm jealous.

I guess I don't get it. I've always thought that Canon and Nikon were both good cameras but I see so many Canon people bashing Nikons. Do you have to be some sort of a snob to own a Canon? I just didn't realize that Canon was THAT far superior to Nikon.

I have a Nikon and I'm very happy with it but I don't bash the Canon users.

Maybe you don't, but many do. Seems there has been an ongoing feud between the two camps. Hopefully its all in fun.

[quote=MAK] The fuji is great yes indeed but resized as small as DPC permit I think you can get great pics with any camera and It's more about how you edit than what you shoot with...
----------------------------------------------------

? More about how you edit ?
I guess we could start up (again) the whole debate about "over editing".
I thought photography was about taking photo's. I know some post processing has to be done, but when is it too much. Years ago when you would develop images in a dark room, there was only so much you could do. Now I know this is a new era, and everything is digital but I think people rely too much on post processing to "fix" an image rather than take the time to "get" the shot. I think everyone should go dust off there old K1000's, find some film and have a little fun.

Just ranting a bit.

I just ordered the Tokina 12-24. I've read a lot of good things about it and now I have to wait not-so-patiently for it to arive.

Good timing MAK. They're just about to drop the price and release the "have-to-buy" new edition.

But I didn't pay any money for what I got, it was a direct trade with someone who really WANTED the fuji.. I don't care what I shoot with Im a real CAM WHORE! hahaha

echoman- I do not feel it is ALL about PP but as I said, on DPC with the file size limits etc you have to process a bit more to get the right feel you know?... that was my point, sorry if it wasn't too clear.

BTW - I am totally loving the 5D's FF and that awsome 70-200 lens.. the 16-35 is a bit wide but I'll grow into it

now looking to get the mid range sorted .. maybe a 24-70L or the 28-105L

If I could afford it I'd have one of each.

Just remember this was a trade for a Fuji because the Nikon owners he knew didn't want to swap their great equipment.

The total turnover of all Nikon models exceeds Canon models. So Canon might have no1 spot in per model sales, total sales volume goes to Nikon. Not that is important, it is just the little bit of economics geek that is left in me. :(

Shot D200 vs 5D, I don't see much difference between both in handling. 5D has the edge in IQ, but overal handling is not so different (Nikon bodies just feel more natural to me). 1D Mk2 was cool to shoot with, but image quality was not blowing me away. We had a lot of fun with the fps though. :))))

I really don't care. I will shoot -if I shoot- with whatever you put in my hands. My next challenge entry was shot with a 5D. :)

That may well be, I haven't seen the total numbers for north america...

So it took a little convincing...

but congrats, Marac! Glad you are happy with the Canon!

...shouldn't there be a Canon vs. Nikon football or soccer game? ...with bench-clearing riots?

I'm not out to bash either brand of dSLR. I have not the experience or credentials to do so. I expect higher priced cameras are better than lower priced cameras otherwise they wouldn't sell.

I chose Nikon for personal reasons. I didn't like Olympus becasue I had a P&S and I hated it 20 minutes after I bought it. I have a Fuji P&S. Someone I know has a Pentex and I wasn't too impressed. My brother has a D50 and I liked it after borrowing it for a few days.

My choice at the time was based on a lot of things. The D200 was newer than the 20D. I didn't think the 30D was enough of an upgrade from the 20D and I liked the feel of the Nikon.

Then I looked at the companies. Nikon makes cameras, lenses, flashes, scanners, and some medical optics components.

Canon makes cameras, camcorders, printers, scanners, multifunction scanners/photocopiers, fax machines, binculars, network video solutions, calculators, cleaning equipment, paper, toner, broadcast equipment, canobean free space optics, custom contract manufacturing, encoders/optoelectronic components, eye care systems, medical imaging, motors, semiconductor equipment, comsumaables/print media, digital presses. Plus Canon sells at Wal-mart. Maybe Nikons are sold there too, but I didn't see them when I looked. I would imagine that if a product is sold at Wal-mart, they sell more products than if you had to go to a specialty store.

I chose the company dedicated to the product I bought, not a diluted giant industry where cameras are just a little division.

Ok, maybe I am bashing.

Good luck with everything MAK. I will still keep you on my favorites. I hope to see some more ribbons.

Oh yeah: I am looking for a new mentor. Someone with a D200 or other Nikon camera.

It's a job I highly recommend if anyone is interested.

Add eyeglasses to the list. I was eyeglass shopping yesterday and they had a pair of Nikon branded frames. Unfortunately, there were no optional camera fittings available for them.

I have both a Canon and a Nikon now. Both purchases took a little self-convincing in order to move over to the dark side, but that's because I used to work for Konica-Minolta. (Not in the camera division, however) But, they sold that stuff off to Sony, and I don't like the memory stick format.

BTW, the employee discount program stunk. I could get one of their cameras cheaper at a local store than with the employee discount.

I had to double check that my stuff is still there after the GTG - you now have a set up very much like mine!

I hope that the 5D works as well for you as all those Nikons. The glass you got with the cam is good stuff.

He he heh. What a strange thing to do: to associate yourself with such fan-boy spin.
