Here are a few photos that I took last week on vacation...unfortunately I couldn't enter them into the nostalgia contest. Any and all feedback is welcome and appreciated.

Ok, this should be better.

Hard to tell .. you should post a link to the pictures. Too small to give feedback.

Theses are two very nice photos IMHO, the use of sepia tone works very well here. 'Back to the Old West' would have been my favourite but the modern lights just above the train spoils the overall feel of the shot. As for 'Historic Train' there seems to be a slight blur in the bottom left corner that I find ever so slightly distracting. However both have very nice composition, a shame you couldn’t submit one.

It looks like "The End of the Road" to me. Nice composition and good choice on using sepia.

Thanks for the comments, I agree about the modern looking lights, it does take away from the whole effect, I would have tried to take the picture from a different angle but I didn't notice they were in the photo until it was to late and we had already left.

Good shots, but to me nostalgia is something that reminds you of a period earlier in your life... since I wasn't (and doubt many people here) were around in 'the old west' I wouldn't think of the shots as very nostalgic..

I'd expect shots that remind you of the 60s or 70s for people that were around in that era, although I'd have to take something reminding people of the 80's or perhaps early 90s (late 90s is too recent I think)

seems like a pretty artifically restrictive definition you've got there - certainly based on what the word normally means...

I read one definition..

A bittersweet longing for things, persons, or situations of the past.

which pretty much agrees with the way I thought about it, without thinking that way you just end up with the past challenge again.. it'll be interesting to see what the entries are like..

nothing in that that says it has to be in your lifetime though... The interesting part is the 'bittersweet longing'. It doesn't just say shoot something old. It'll be interesting to see how many pictures evoke some feelings of longing for the past, rather than just showing something rusty.

yeah, I suppose the 'bittersweet longing' part is the crucial bit.

those train shots are awesome! i really like 'em. too bad for those damn lights!

for someone who used to ride trains a lot as a kid or something, that photo would be quite nostalgic... whereas someone who hates trains might look at it and say "why is this a nostalgia picture?" it's a pretty subjective challenge definition, which i think is pretty good. hope to see some really cool pics in this challenge :)

Thanks for the great comments, jxpfeer, I totally agree on the lights, definately through off the whole "old time" mood I was going for.
